We all have a number of beliefs that we carry around and take as fact.
Today I want to give you the opportunity to reassess those thoughts and get rid of any of those that no longer serve you.
Alright,
Let's do it.
Get yourself into a nice comfortable seat,
Bring the eyes to close and just start to settle in.
Get any fidgets out the way and just get into a position where you are ready,
Calm and ready.
You can start to take this meditation deeper by focusing on the connection to the seat below you.
Begin to focus just on the bit of furniture you're sitting in and how your body connects with that.
Then see if you can give all your body weight to that seat and as you do,
See if you can grow your spine up just a bit taller,
A bit longer and continue in that fashion.
Each exhale letting your weight into that seat and each inhale letting that spine grow along.
Imagine the top of the head being pulled towards the ceiling gently.
As you do that,
Get some repetition in there.
I'll explain to you the session for today.
See my girlfriend is an avid gardener.
One thing she does is a lot of deadheading or pruning sometimes they call it.
The system of cutting off excess leaves or previously bloomed flowers or petals in order to conserve energy and direct it to the new flowers that are trying to come through.
It works a treat and it blew me away when I first saw it happen.
It got me thinking,
What if we could do this in our own lives?
I want you to imagine a flower in your mind.
Make sure it only has four petals.
You can choose the color or the type of flower.
Just make sure it has the four petals.
I want you to imagine on each petal a negative thought that you have or have had about yourself or your situation or any aspect of your life.
Now if you can't think of four,
That's okay.
If you can think of more than four,
That's also okay.
But just limit it to four.
Now if you have less than four,
Then you can just repeat the same one on multiple times.
Because what you're going to do in a moment is write down each one of those thoughts in a sentence on each of those four petals.
I'll give you some time to come up with those thoughts and then imagine writing down those negative thoughts on each of the four petals of your flower.
Okay,
If you need more time,
Just press pause and you can continue afterwards.
Let's start though.
Looking at your flower,
Let's focus on the first statement that came up for you.
See it written neatly on that petal.
Have a look at the statement and just notice how it feels when you read the statement back.
Like I said in my example,
It may be you're not in good enough shape.
Just connect with what emotions come up as you read it and start to label those emotions.
Now think about how the statement has impacted your life.
How it's shown up not just as a set of words but as a way you feel about the world,
As a way you see the world feeling about you.
In what ways has it held you back?
In what ways has it been a negative force in your life?
There may be some deep imagery that comes up when you think of those things.
Sometimes it's not words,
It's images or memories.
That's okay,
Just bring that to the fore.
Again,
Focus on the emotions that come up with this.
And then I want you to imagine cutting this petal from the flower,
Pruning it,
Deadheading it as we spoke about in the gardening analogy.
Inhale,
Feel everything the statement brings to your life or takes from your life.
As you exhale,
Just snip that petal from the flower.
Imagine falling now to the floor and see if you can feel the energy that you've regained now that the statement is no longer part of your life.
Let's move on to the second statement,
The second petal.
Imagine it written neatly,
Read those words and you can take a moment if you need to remind yourself what one of these other statements were or if you need to generate one.
Starting with how it makes you feel when you read those words.
Labeling the emotions.
And then thinking of the memories or the feelings or the ways in which it has held you back in your life.
What pain has it created,
This simple statement?
All right.
Now,
Imagine grabbing those snips and cutting this petal free from the flower.
See it slowly float all the way down to the floor.
And as you do,
Release that statement from your life and see if you can feel the energy that you've reclaimed as a result of letting that statement go.
Feel the weight that is released and feel the energy that is given back.
On to petal three.
Read that statement.
Remember what that statement was.
And again,
If you'd like to change it,
You're welcome to do that now.
If it's the same statement again,
That's okay too.
How do these words make you feel?
What are the emotions that come up?
Now think about how the statement has held you back.
Has maybe stopped you doing things you'd like to do?
And with that feeling right at the forefront of your mind,
With those emotions prominent in your body,
Grab those snips and cut that petal free.
As it falls,
Feel the weight released.
And feel your burden of that statement lifted.
And you feel a little bit freer from those harmful words.
Let's move now to the fourth statement.
Time again to change it,
Generate it.
Use the same one.
Read those words.
And now feel the emotions that come with those words.
Frustration,
Pain,
Shame.
Whatever it is,
Name it.
Think of how it's impacted your life.
How it's changed your behavior.
How it's robbed you of living your life fully.
And then grab those snips and cut it free.
As the petal falls,
The weight,
The burden of that statement is released.
And you reclaim all the energy that you've given to it.
You're ready now to grow a new set of petals.
To rewrite the statements that you want to live by.
To feel the way you want to feel.
Don't let these statements rob you of your energy,
Of your power,
Of your majesty.
From this point,
You get to start again.
Feel that newfound power you've created.
Not by adding external validation,
But by letting go of your internal criticism.
Now go out there and create something new and positive.
Namaste.
