Hello and welcome to today's segment of 5 minutes for me with Michelle Burke,

International best-selling author and the hot mess alchemist.

It is my mission and passion to help society expand and grow.

That is what I am on this planet to do.

And one of the greatest ways that we can expand and that we can grow is to truly be our authentic selves,

To express ourselves,

To honor what it is that we are feeling.

And I truly understand as to how in today's society it can be very hard to express how you're truly feeling.

Especially because we haven't been taught as women to express ourselves.

As a woman.

So let's reverse that.

Because when we do not fully express ourselves,

These emotions,

These things that we are feeling,

They become stagnant in our body.

And it is that stagnation that leads to disease,

To illness,

To all sorts of other pathologies taking place within our bodies.

I lost both my dad and my grandma unexpectedly in 2022 within a three-week period.

During that time I had a friend ask me,

Right after my dad died,

How I was doing and I stopped.

And I stood there and I truly connected with my body in that moment.

And I said to her,

I'm riding the wave.

Because as human beings,

That is what we do every single day.

We ride a wave of emotions.

And when we truly honor what we are feeling,

We know how to ride that wave with ease,

With grace,

And in a way that is so gentle and loving for our bodies.

I had a mentor years ago say to me,

Sit in the ick.

No matter how uncomfortable it is,

Sit in the ick.

And when we sit in that ick,

We learn how emotions feel in our body.

Because in today's society,

We bypass our emotions.

We suppress them with sex,

Porn,

Drugs,

Alcohol,

TV,

Social media,

Keeping ourselves busy instead of truly feeling into what it is that we are feeling.

The number one thing that was on my to-do list after my dad died was honor what you're feeling.

And that is exactly what I did.

I cried on the beach.

I had full-blown tantrums on the beach.

I cried in the supermarket.

I had meltdowns wherever need be.

Because that is what I needed in that moment.

And that is my advice to all of you,

My two takeaways.

Sit in the ick.

Learn how emotions feel in your body,

And then express yourself.

If you're angry,

Let that anger out in healthy manners.

I did kickboxing.

It was my stress reliever,

Getting all the anger out of my body when I was in that stage of grief.

Trust your body.

Listen to what your body is feeling,

And truly express yourselves.
