The third week after surgery or a medical procedure may bring a desire to do more, even as the body continues to heal at its own pace. This meditation, inspired by practices that supported me during week three after a hysterectomy with bilateral salpingo-oophorectomy, uses a guided anchor breath and reflects on the power of “yet.” While not specific to any procedure, it reminds us that power is not lost simply because the body is not ready. Sending wishes for patience, trust, and growing strength.

Hello,

Welcome,

This is Teresa Ann and I am so glad you joined me for continuing the calm week three healing after surgery,

Or perhaps a medical experience or emotional change that you're looking for more healing in the third week,

Days 15 through 21.

By this week,

I noticed that after my surgery,

There was little to no pain,

Just a little discomfort.

I felt like I had done just major ab work.

My bandages came off on their own.

I was able to sleep on my side.

But I did notice anxiety increasing as my mind wants to do more than my body's ready.

And I needed more meditation throughout the week,

Not just a morning practice and the evening practice,

But afternoon practice as well.

I finished reading a classic Color Purple and that powerful read really helped me through a couple of days.

I started incorporating music therapy and played it and listened to it to get me through some of the hours.

I actually ventured out of the home,

Went out to lunch,

Was able to complete a two mile walk on the beach.

Although I was suffering a little bit with a cold,

That became emotionally frustrating.

And I remembered to practice the power of yet.

So as I wanted to do much more than my body was allowing it,

I would close my eyes and visualize the things that I wanted to do.

And instead of being frustrated with not being able to,

I would visualize perhaps going for a longer walk,

Or maybe a swim,

Or getting back to work.

And as I visualized it,

I would say,

Okay,

I can't emotionally do that yet.

I can't physically do that yet.

And that whole power of yet got me through week number three.

So now I'm going to invite you to take a moment to perhaps visualize something that you want to do,

Understanding the concept of yet.

I can do that,

Or I will do that,

Just not yet.

Practicing that whole idea of self compassion.

And now taking a moment to find a comfortable position,

Whatever that might mean to you.

It could be sitting up on a chair.

Perhaps if your body is ready in a cross legged position on the floor,

Or laying down and deciding if you'd like to keep your eyes open or closed,

And know if they're closed,

You can always open them.

And if they're open,

You can always close them.

Thinking about your spine.

Sitting if you are sitting alert,

But not stressed,

Perhaps bringing your shoulders up back and around.

And just noticing your breath.

Now.

Not worrying how you're breathing,

Your body knows how to breathe.

Just noticing the breath.

And we'll take three anchor breaths together.

And I will guide you through them.

You'll then tend to take 10 breaths on your own.

And we'll reconvene for three more anchor breaths to close the breathing meditation.

And as your mind wanders,

Which it will,

Bringing it back to the breath.

And as maybe you're noticing your mind focusing on those things you can't do yet.

Understand that there is power in that concept,

The power of yet.

So again,

Deciding how your eyes will be open or closed.

Bringing your body to alert not stress and we'll take our breath in two,

Three,

Four.

Out two,

Three,

Four.

In two,

Three,

Four.

Out two,

Three,

Four.

In two,

Three,

Four.

Out two,

Three,

Four.

Now taking 10 breaths on your own.

Breathing in two,

Three,

Four.

Out two,

Three,

Four.

Breathing in two,

Three,

Four.

Out two,

Three,

Four.

Breathing in two,

Three,

Four.

Out two,

Three,

Four.

And before you open your eyes,

Or lift your gaze,

Thinking of someone,

Some place,

Or something you're truly grateful for.

And welcome back to week three of healing.

And remembering throughout the week,

The power of yet.

Now focusing on some words from the color purple.

The most common way people give up power is by thinking they don't have any.

Wishing you a week of healing.

Be well
