Before we begin,
I want to let you know that today's episode will explore the topic of death and mortality.
I'll be discussing how acknowledging your mortality can lead to a richer,
More purposeful life.
If this is a sensitive subject for you,
Please feel free to listen at your own comfort level or revisit this episode whenever you're ready.
So today I'm diving into a topic that Western culture tends to shy away from,
Death.
It's a subject that can feel uncomfortable,
Even taboo,
But it's also a reality that,
If we're honest,
We spend a lot of energy pretending doesn't exist.
In our culture,
There's almost a fearful relationship with death.
We push it away,
We fear it,
We act as if it will never happen,
As if it's something that exists only in the background,
Out of sight and out of mind.
Because of this reluctance,
This almost willful blindness,
We live our lives as though they're infinite.
What happens when we live this way,
Taking time for granted,
Is that we start to put things on hold.
Our dreams,
Our ambitions,
Those passions we say we'll get to someday.
We cling to grudges,
Convinced we'll have all the time in the world to make amends,
To forgive or to be forgiven,
And we often slip into autopilot,
Going through the motions rather than really living.
But what if we acknowledge death?
Not as something to fear,
But as a reminder that life is finite.
When we accept this truth,
It shifts how we live.
Suddenly,
We feel more present,
More alive,
And more open.
We find ourselves forgiving more quickly,
Realising that holding onto resentment only wastes time.
We might feel inspired to chase our dreams right now rather than later.
Plans that we once delayed become too important to postpone.
For me,
This has been a personal journey.
I'm actively working on changing my own view of death,
Learning to accept it and even remind myself daily that it's going to happen to me,
To all of us.
And by facing that reality,
I've found it's the best way to remember what's most important to me.
It's a reminder to focus on what truly matters and to make the most of my time every single day.
Ultimately,
Accepting our mortality reminds us of what we value most.
It brings clarity to what really matters.
Death isn't something we need to fear,
But a profound teacher that,
When we're willing to look,
Can show us how to live.
So,
If there's anything you've been putting off,
Anything you've been waiting on,
Let this be a gentle nudge.
Let's start pushing things into the future as though time is endless.
Embrace today,
Live fully and remember that our time here is a gift.
