In mindfulness we do not hide from difficult emotions, so we dare to honestly look at death and take from it what learnings we find. We use the breath of life, prana, to connect with the Universe, with all that is. We find that our fear of loss and experience of pain is because we love. We use tapping (Emotional Freedom Technique) to release our difficult emotions as they come up and choose that we would like to be grateful for life. Photo by Javardh on Unsplash

Let's make ourselves comfortable.

Finding a position we can be alert and still relaxed.

A little bit of both so our spine is tall.

We can inhale and get a little bit taller and exhale and soften a little so we're comfortable.

Putting our arms and legs somewhere comfortable and having a little fidget till we find somewhere we can be still.

And finding our breath and our internal world.

And noticing it how it feels to bring our attention inwards.

So in yoga the breath is a key role,

Absolutely vital part of life.

Not only do we breathe in chemical oxygen and exhale carbon dioxide we draw in prana,

The energy of the universe.

So we're going to use that system to connect with the universe.

So we're going to draw in our breath and as we do so our attention goes from the base of our spine up our spine out the crown of our head into the sky above.

And exhaling down through our central column of our spine out into the earth beneath us.

Inhaling all the way up to infinity and all the way down to the earth.

Please allow the breath to be comfortable,

We're not straining to fill our lungs just rolling up and down.

Connecting to the earth,

Connecting to the universe above us.

And providing a nice strong focus for our mind so it doesn't wander to our worries and our to-do list.

So we return if our mind wanders there.

Excuse me.

And receiving and exchanging prana with the universe is just as important to us as the oxygen and carbon dioxide exchange.

Because although we can live on minimal prana we won't enjoy ourselves.

It'll be hard because we're isolated from all that is.

Just take those breaths and connect.

Feel our place between heaven and earth.

Releasing that practice and resting with our breath.

When we consider the lack of life,

Death,

Many of us fear to look,

Most of us fear to look because it reminds us of our own losses.

And when we use mindfulness we dare to look.

So for a few moments I invite you to consider the end of life of yourself and others.

To notice the loss.

To feel the pain.

And to be courageous enough to look honestly at whatever we find.

It's still there even if we don't look and we still feel it even if we don't look closely.

I invite you also to recognize that any of it only hurts because we love.

It only hurts because we care.

And to place love as the foundation of this pain.

It's the bedrock of all our painful feelings.

So when we feel pain for another we worry for another or ourselves.

It's because it matters.

We care,

We love.

Which I find makes it just a little easier to bear that pain.

We may also feel uncomfortable emotions like fear,

Maybe grievances that were unresolved,

Resentments towards those that have gone on off the physical plane.

And even those people that get to a very old age.

The advice they give us often is to allow these things to go so that we can enjoy our lives more.

Which is sound advice but how?

How does one do that?

So the first step is to stand and face the direction of allowing it to go.

I'm willing,

I'm ready and willing to allow my whatever pain,

Suffering,

Lack,

Resentment,

Grievance to leave whatever holds me back.

Knowing that when we next feel those feelings that is the time.

In that moment we feel the feeling,

We acknowledge the feeling,

We willingly,

Consciously let it go.

And if you wish we can use a tapping emotional freedom technique.

So very gently tapping on your thymus gland,

This is your heart.

Your heart's center as opposed to your physical heart.

So a few inches above your breastbone,

The end of your ribs,

Between your breasts tap very gently and this is an energetic point,

Marma point,

Chi point.

So in that moment of feeling that difficult emotion we can say something like as we tap gently,

I gladly,

Lovingly,

Willingly release whatever painful emotion it is that I'm feeling,

Whatever blocks me and holds me back,

Consciously and subconsciously in all time and space.

And if you have a faith in the spirits of the unseen,

In your unseen family and spirit you can ask for their help to do this.

And I ask for help from my family of light to do this.

I willingly,

Lovingly welcome experiences of joy and abundance into my life.

The unconditional love and bliss and whatever words work for you.

We can stop tapping and rest and notice how it feels to do that.

You Earth is full of life.

The air,

The water,

The ground,

The earth.

But our perspective,

When we take the materialist perspective,

Our perspective is limited.

And I suspect as one meditates more and more one becomes more connected to the unseen life.

So the life of spirit.

So there's the physical world and that is teeming with life.

Full movement,

Energy,

Exuberant life.

And it is my belief that the unseen world,

A world of spirit,

Of pure energy is just as lively.

The connecting with Indra's net,

With each living molecule,

Living atom of which we are part.

And having that connection spread out to infinity around us.

Full of life we cannot even comprehend.

How fortunate are we to be alive at a time where we are remembering this,

An awakening to this possibility.

And one last thing that death teaches us to enjoy our life.

I'd like to enjoy my life but honestly that sounds difficult,

It is difficult.

But I choose it.

And here and now I set the intention that if I cannot right now knowingly,

Honestly say I'm enjoying my life and I'm grateful for it,

I choose to be grateful for it.

I'm standing in the direction of being grateful for my life.

I choose to be grateful for life.

Breathing that in and imagining how it would be to be grateful for your life.

That you enjoyed it so much that it was a really good thing.

Each moment you'd squeeze every last drop of juice from.

Feeling how that feels.

We've taken a step towards being grateful for life because that feeling of how it would feel when we were grateful takes us forward.

I urge you to revisit that.

Resting a moment before we leave this place.

And then slowly we use the breath of life to reanimate our body.

Drawing in a few deeper breaths.

Feeling that energy flowing into our body.

This is no metaphor.

Feeling it flow into our arms and our legs.

Gradually starting to move and stretch.

However feels good for you.

Gradually returning to our regular state of consciousness.

Thank you for practicing with me.
