There are thoughts we’ve inherited. Stories we’ve absorbed. Beliefs we’ve mistaken as truth. This meditation invites you to pause and ask: “Is this even mine?” Blending poetic reflection, trauma-informed guidance, and space to truly listen, this practice helps you untangle from the narratives that never belonged to you. Gently, you’ll be invited to release them — not by force, but by recognition. Let this be a return to your own mind. Your own voice. Your own peace.

Welcome.

This is a meditation for the stories that were never yours and a return to the ones that are.

There's a moment in healing when we realize not every thought we've carried was ever really ours.

Some came early,

Passed down like secrets no one meant to share.

Woven into us so young,

They started to feel like truth.

Take a breath in,

Let it fall out like a thought you no longer need.

Let yourself arrive,

That not everything you think belongs to you.

You know the thoughts,

The voice that says you're too much,

You're not enough,

Or maybe you're unworthy unless you're pleasing,

Proving,

And perfect.

Whose voice was that?

Was it a parent's fear,

A teacher's disappointment,

Or a culture that confused your worth with your usefulness?

Let yourself hear it,

Not to believe it,

But to notice it isn't yours,

Like a recording on repeat in a voice that never belonged to your soul.

Some stories were like hand-me-down clothes,

Passed on,

Worn thin,

And never meant for us,

But we wore them anyway because we didn't know we could take them off.

They were stitched with someone else's fear.

They were sized to fit a version of you that never had room to breathe.

You don't have to wear them anymore.

You don't have to carry thoughts that never fit.

Not everything you think belongs to you.

Allow yourself to place a hand on your heart and the other on your belly.

Simply feel the rise and fall of you here.

Breathe into your hands.

Inhale,

What is mine?

Exhale,

What is not?

Again,

Inhale,

The truth,

Exhale,

The echo.

Let your body speak louder than the story,

And let your breath return what never belonged.

Let it go.

The thought that never belonged to you,

The shame that never began with you,

And the voice that kept you small,

Give it back to the wind,

To the water,

And to the earth,

And whisper to yourself,

I return to what is mine.

And I release what never was.

Again,

I return to what is mine.

And I release what never was.

Because not everything you think belongs to you.

I return to what is mine.

And I release what never was.

Start to return to this moment.

Start to return to your inhale.

What is mine,

The truth.

And exhale what is not,

Echo.

May you leave this space,

My friend,

A little lighter,

A little freer.

May your mind,

Body,

And spirit be abundant with peace,

And the truth that was always yours,

Today,

And every day.

If this touched something in you,

You're not alone.

There's more waiting for you here.

So follow me on Insight Timer to keep walking this path,

Together.

Namaste.
