Take a deep breath in and sigh it out,
Releasing the tension from your body,
Maybe rolling your shoulders or your neck,
And just settle into this moment and the space around you.
There is a psychological principle called the endowment effect,
Which is the idea that what already belongs to us always seems very precious and valuable.
This is why we find it so difficult to let go of things,
Of people,
Of places,
Jobs,
Or habits that no longer serve us.
What might you be holding onto now?
Imagine that you are walking along the street,
Your arms are full,
Carrying all the different boxes that make up your life right now.
Maybe your family takes up a large box,
Your friends are a large box,
Your job has a box,
Your relationship with your parents has a box,
Your passion project has a box.
Try to identify all the different boxes in your arms,
The things you love and those things you are struggling to carry with you.
Maybe some of the boxes feel awkward to carry or just a little out of place.
And as you're walking along the street,
A friendly stranger approaches you and offers you a new box containing some new opportunity,
But you are already balancing too many things and struggling to continue forward.
What might you set down to make space for something new?
What could you let go of?
Letting go of things is always difficult,
But a hand that is clutching onto things does not have space to catch something new.
It's okay to let go of what is no longer serving you or in your best interest.
You're not losing something,
You're gaining space.
It's okay to take a new path.
You must let go or be dragged.
Feel the subtle shift within you.
Maybe you feel just a bit lighter.
Maybe you can breathe just a bit deeper.
Inhale,
And sigh it out.
Sit in this stillness just a moment longer,
And when you're ready,
Begin to notice your surroundings and settle back into your body.
Maybe wiggling your fingers and toes,
Taking one more deep breath in,
And exhale,
Blinking open your eyes if they were closed,
With love and light.
