This meditation is designed to get you practicing meditation with a simple structure. It invites you to focus on the area directly between the eyebrows, the Third-Eye, in order to help calm your mind. The third eye is a place where great insight and knowledge about ourselves can be revealed, but also, because of where it is situated, it can help to bring balance to our body and mind. By developing a practice that diverts our awareness away from mental distractions to the third-eye area, we can begin to experience a calmer mind and start to discover the great wisdom that resides within us.

Hello and welcome to this meditation.

Today we're going to meditate on the third eye area.

The third eye is said to be the seat of knowledge and wisdom.

But also when we meditate on the third eye and use that as our concentration point,

As our focus point or drishti point,

Because of where it's situated we're helping to bring balance between the left side and right side of our body and also bringing balance to the feminine and the masculine energies.

So to prepare for meditation,

Let's get into a nice comfortable position.

Find a position for you that allows your spine to be tall,

Recognizing the curvature in your spine.

This will allow the air to flow more freely,

But also the energy that's generated in this meditation.

You might be sitting on a chair or on a cushion on the floor.

Take some time to start to soften your body.

Maybe your shoulders are a bit tense,

You might like to lift them up and roll them back and just let them settle,

Relaxing your jaw,

Your forehead,

Letting go of any intensity in the stomach and when you're ready gently shutting down your eyes to bring your attention within.

Take a few deep breaths,

In through the nose and out through the mouth,

In through the attention and softening into your posture.

We'll begin our meditation with nine chants of OM,

Allowing the vibration of the Sanskrit sound OM to do whatever it needs to do to prepare us for meditation.

I invite you now to offer gratitude to any masters or teachers or gurus or whoever it is that you pray to or ask for help to request their assistance during this meditation.

Take a moment to do that and when you're ready bringing your attention inside and focus between the eyebrows,

The place directly between the eyebrows,

Just lightly resting your awareness there.

You may notice your eyes slightly flickering,

Releasing any tension in the forehead,

Relaxing your eyes and bringing awareness to the third eye area.

If you notice your mind wandering,

Gently without expectation and with full compassion bringing your awareness back to the third eye area as we meditate on the third eye.

Continuing to allow your awareness to rest between the eyebrows.

I invite you now to continue your meditation without any sound in the background,

Focusing your attention between the eyebrows,

Lightly resting in that place,

Continuing to rest your attention between the eyebrows,

Allowing yourself to be fully present with whatever sounds you can hear,

Whatever experiences you're having.

Having that focus between the eyebrows and allowing it to keep you in the present.

We'll chant nine alms to complete our meditation.

I now invite you to chant the universal prayers for peace and well-being with an intention for universal peace and well-being.

Loka Samastah Sukhino Bhavantu Slowly start to come back into your body,

Letting yourself hear the sounds in the room,

Taking your time to move different parts of your body,

Your fingers and toes.

You might like to stretch your back and neck,

Shoulders,

Doing whatever's necessary.

And when you're ready,

Gently opening your eyes.

Namaste.
