Hello and welcome to The Daily Insight.
My name is David Gandelman and tonight we're going to be working on calm sleep.
Thank you so much for joining me.
I hope you're in bed and ready to shut your eyes,
To let go of the world,
And to dissolve into a deep deep sleep.
As we step into this meditation tonight and into our sleep,
We come in with the attitude that everything,
No matter what happened today,
Is okay.
Even if it was a really rough day,
Turbulent day,
Hectic day.
You can notice that you don't have to be responsible for every thought going through your head.
Could you imagine if you were responsible for every single thought or if you had to solve every single thought that you had?
It would be a battle of thoughts all night long,
Which I'm sure you've experienced before and why you're here.
So as you lay in bed,
As your eyes are closed,
Be okay with whatever is happening on the screen of your mind's eye.
Start to slow your breath.
Maybe breathe twice as slow and twice as deep as you have been.
And that will signal to your brain that you're slowing down.
It'll signal to your body that you're ready to rest.
And we can have a calm sleep or we can have a very turbulent sleep.
To step into a calm sleep,
It's important that we go to sleep calm.
And we go to sleep consciously.
And without letting a regret or a stressor weigh us down.
So I invite you to actually love the fact that you're going to sleep Enjoy dissolving into the silence of the night.
Be happy for yourself that you get to rest.
If you've ever watched a cat or a dog or another animal go to sleep,
They do it almost with a joy.
And many of them will go in and out of sleep all day long.
Without any negative attitude towards it or a stressor.
I'm getting enough sleep.
They go into sleep and they come out.
And I invite you with the same attitude to go into sleep tonight.
Allow everything to slow down and be still.
Allow everything to slow down and be still.
Allow everything to slow down and be calm.
And most of all,
Allow everything to slow down and be present.
Feel the gravity of your bed pulling you down.
And feel the gravity of sleep pulling you away from the day.
There's a time to be awake and move,
To do,
To be responsible,
To create.
And then there's a time to rest,
To recover,
To go into the dark night and to come out fresh and awake.
You need both.
You deserve both.
And you can't function well without both.
I invite you to turn the volume knob of your mind down.
It may go forever.
It may not stop fully in sleep.
But you can just turn that volume level down and let's see what happens.
And let's see what happens.
Notice that you've fallen asleep thousands of times before,
And you will thousands of times again.
This is a journey across the river of sleep that you take every night.
So you can imagine yourself getting into your boat.
Here,
Let's call it your dream boat.
And you begin to sail across the river of sleep into the unknown,
Into the unmanifested,
Into the unconscious.
And in the morning,
You'll find yourself sailing back to where you started to create a new day.
Enjoy your trip tonight.
Enjoy your rest.
Enjoy your sleep.
Sleep calmly.
Sleep deeply.
Sleep well.
And I'll see you on the other side.
You
