A gentle and guided meditation to help you feel calm and to reduce overwhelm. This meditation was inspired at the turn of another year, which can often feel overwhelming. It is a reminder that the new year, month, week, day or hour is a continuation around the circle of life where we have certainties like the time and the seasons to gently guide us around the next stage. Recognising that any uncertainties will eventually pass. Original music John Hare.

Reducing overwhelm.

A guided meditation.

Finding yourselves a comfortable position.

I invite you to close your eyes.

Coming within the body now.

Noticing how the body feels.

Allowing the surface beneath you to hold you,

Support you.

And encouraging any tension to flow out through the soles of your feet.

Imagining a light starting at the crown of your head.

And as it travels down through your body,

Invite the tension to leave.

Starting at the crown of your head,

The light begins to flow down through your forehead.

Down through the backs of your eyes and the muscles in your eyes.

Your cheekbones and your jaw.

Just pausing at your jaw.

As you feel the light and warmth radiating,

Inviting all tension to leave your jaw now.

Light flowing down through your neck,

Shoulders,

Pausing at your shoulders.

Often a place that we carry a lot of tension.

Letting all that tension from your shoulders now to seep into the surface beneath you.

No more holding or carrying.

Letting that tension flow down now.

And the light continuing down the tops of your arms and your elbows and your forearms and your fingers.

The light flowing down through the chest as the movement of your breathing becomes slower.

The light flowing down now through the solar plexus and your belly.

Just encouraging all softening of the belly now.

No need for holding of any tension in the belly.

The light flowing down through the hips,

The thighs,

The knees,

The shins and the calves.

The light flowing down through the ankles to the tops of the feet until it reaches the soles of the feet.

Your body inviting all tension to leave the body now and to bathe in warmth and light.

Bringing awareness now to your breath.

Noticing the passage of breath coming in and away.

Observing the breath.

Bringing one hand to your heart center.

Center of your chest in line with your armpits.

Noticing any warmth radiating out from your heart center.

Dropping all awareness now down into the heart center.

And when we lead a busy life.

A life of plans and lists coming and going.

The overwhelm can feel great.

You can feel overwhelmed for the next hour,

The next day,

Week,

Month or year ahead.

This overwhelm can stop us from thinking clearly,

Practically,

Sensibly.

Can make us feel out of control.

And our heart center can steady that ship.

And when we become steady.

We can take inspiration from the certainty that is all around us.

The certainty of the seasons.

Winter into spring.

Spring into summer.

Summer into autumn.

And autumn back to winter.

Continuous certainties that are within our lives.

And with these seasons bring weather changing.

Temperatures rising and falling.

And storms upon the horizon.

Just like the seasons.

Seasons are a certainty within our life.

And therefore acceptance of the highs and the lows.

The triumphs and the heart breaks.

The setbacks and the achievements.

That come as continuously living around the circle of life.

And as we age we gather tools to help us navigate these U-turns,

Abrupt stops and corners.

To be reminded that whenever uncertainties or overwhelm come our way.

To be reminded that life is continuously moving.

And this moment shall pass.

Every moment,

Experience,

Situation eventually will pass.

Just like time.

And just like the seasons.

Bringing your awareness back to your breath now.

Noticing the rise and fall of your belly.

With the rhythm of your breathing.

I encourage you to deepen the breath now.

Bringing fresh oxygen into your body.

Radiating this calm,

Peace and stillness within.

Allowing you to carry on with the rest of your day.

Feeling calm and less overwhelmed.

Bringing the breath back to normal now.

I invite you to start moving your fingers and your toes.

Awakening the body.

Bringing all awareness back into the room that you are in.

And when you're ready,

I invite you to open up your eyes.

Peace,

Peace,

Peace be unto all.
