Experience the true nature of mind, the unchanging essence of your being. Enjoy the complete relief of no longer needing to manage your thoughts and emotions and letting all the energy that arises move through you. Rest naturally as open intelligence (awareness), for short moments, many times, until it is obvious at all times. This simple practice is at the heart of Dzogchen practice and can be practiced wherever you are and whatever you do.

In this meditation there is nothing that you need to do,

Nothing that you need to manage or accomplish.

It's a meditation where you can simply notice what is already happening in you and for you and who that you really is that is experiencing all of that.

This is also called the introduction to the true nature of mind or awareness,

Consciousness.

We refer to it as open intelligence and it is an introduction that is in your direct experience so there is nothing you need to understand or think about.

It is something to notice about yourself.

Let's start by just resting,

Relaxing our mind and body for a moment.

Breathing in through your nose and out through your mouth and with every out breath let your mind and body relax a little more and start by noticing what's happening in your mind.

Maybe there is a voice chattering away about your day,

Maybe things that you should be doing right now instead of meditating or things that you know you'll need to do later and don't want to do or are excited about,

Whatever it is,

Take a moment to just notice.

If your mind is anything like mine it will go from one place to the next pretty quickly,

Often with no apparent logic why the next thing comes up.

Now notice that you are the one that is listening,

You are that which is aware of all these thoughts streaming through your mind.

You are neither the voices nor what they are telling you,

You are that which is aware of them.

Now explore,

Do you really change depending on what the voice is saying,

On whether you have good thoughts or bad thoughts,

Exciting thoughts or boring thoughts.

The content of your mind is constantly changing but mind itself,

The you that is aware,

That is the true nature of mind that is unchanging.

Like a crystal ball in which countless reflections appear leaving no trace in the crystal ball itself.

This is the true nature of mind,

The aware basic space in which thoughts arise,

Abide and vanish naturally like the flight path of a bird in the sky leaving no trace.

Now let's turn to your emotions,

How are you actually feeling in this moment,

Where in your body do you experience this emotion,

Does it generally feel positive or negative or is it more of a neutral state?

Now if you can remember an hour or two hours ago,

How did you feel then?

How did you feel yesterday evening?

Now look again at the awareness,

The you that's aware of these emotions,

Yesterday,

Two hours ago,

Right now,

Is this you changing?

Much like with your thoughts we find that the content is changing but the awareness at the basis that's aware of the emotions,

The sensations in our bodies is unchanging.

It's the same aware presence,

The clarity with which we know what it feels like,

That intelligence that is aware,

Clear,

Impossible not to be present in this moment to whatever arises,

This you is unchanging.

Look again at the different thoughts,

Emotions or sensations in your body,

Constantly changing one after the other,

After the other,

After the other,

A ceaseless stream of experience but one awareness experiencing them.

Relax and rest as that awareness,

As that bare,

Open intelligence that is the essence of your being,

Complete perceptual openness in any experience,

Resting as the space allowing the energy move through that space,

Recognizing the essence of our being does not undergo any transition or change.

Rest as this true nature of mind again and again for short moments throughout your day until open intelligence is obvious at all times.

This is the simple meditation practice for everyday life.

Whenever you remember take a short moment,

Relax body and mind in their natural state letting everything be exactly as it is for that instant and continuing on with your day.
