We all encounter stresses in our work life - conflicts with colleagues, performance pressures, job uncertainty or loss. It is entirely normal to feel negative emotions during times like this, and there's also much we can do to help ourselves through it. In this short 7 minute meditation, we'll acknowledge these feelings, find calm in the body, and take one small step towards our ideal outcome.

Welcome.

Thank you so much for joining me today.

My name is Melissa and I'm here to help support you through your time of work stress and uncertainty.

And we all go through it at some point in time or other where we have difficulty with a colleague or a boss.

What we're being asked to achieve is too challenging.

We feel like the road ahead is uncertain.

We see things around us at work that we don't like or maybe we've even lost our job recently.

And of course in any of these situations,

The first thing to acknowledge really is feelings that come out of situations like this.

Feelings of anxiety,

Sadness,

Confusion.

They're all natural.

They're all normal.

There's nothing wrong with you for feeling that way.

Now the question becomes how do you take care of yourself in times like this?

And how do you move yourself forward in a way that's productive and moves your life in a direction that's helpful and empowering for you?

So we're going to start out by relaxing our body.

And the way we're going to do that is actually by starting out tensing the muscles in our body.

And that's a wonderful way to experience the relaxation that comes after experiencing a high degree of tension,

Which you may be experiencing right now.

So we're going to start by clenching all the muscles in your body.

Your face,

Your hands,

Your arms,

Your stomach,

Your leg,

All the way down to your toes.

Really,

Really tightly.

You ready?

Let's go.

Clench really tightly and hold it.

Three,

Two,

One,

Release.

And feel the tension and stress releasing with it.

One more time.

Tense the muscles.

Ready,

Set,

Go.

Tense.

Tense your face all the way down to your toes and release.

Letting the tension go with it.

And one more time.

Tensing all the muscles in the body.

Really,

Really tight.

And letting it all go.

Letting all the tension slide.

Imagine it's sliding down from the top of your head,

Down your face,

Down your shoulders and your arms,

Sliding down your fingertips,

Through your torso,

Down your back,

Sliding down your legs and into the ground,

Into the earth beneath you,

Leaving your body.

And now we'll take a look at our current situation and think about what would an optimal outcome be in this particular circumstance.

And I'd like you to spend a moment thinking about what your ideal situation at work might look like.

Maybe it's building a better relationship with your boss or colleagues.

Maybe it's moving into a new role or a new company.

Maybe it's having a realistic,

Productive conversation with your manager.

Whatever it is,

Visualize that in your mind.

And how are you going to feel when you achieve that positive outcome?

And feel how it would feel in your body and in your mind when you actually achieve that outcome.

And now that you've got that outcome in your mind,

I'm going to ask you to think about one small step that you can take today that will get you closer to that optimal outcome.

It's really important to remind yourself that personal change is a gradual process.

You know,

The seed doesn't spring into a tree in the matter of a few hours.

These things take time,

And you and your growth and your development take time as well.

And so what is in your control is the one thing you can do today that can lead you to that happier outcome.

And commit to yourself to making that step happen.

Your future self is going to thank you.

And with that,

I'd like you to take a deep breath in,

And a deep breath out.

One more deep breath in,

And a deep breath out.

And go forward and make that next step happen for yourself.

Wishing you all the best.

Treat yourself gently.

Namaste.
