Welcome friends,
My name is Stella Billory.
I'm a Senior Occupational Therapist working in the NHS in the UK and I'm a teacher of movement and meditation.
This meditation is a short meditation to start your day.
So let's begin.
You're invited to become comfortable and you could do this in a seated position or in a lying down position.
Just scanning through your body and seeing if there are any body parts that might benefit from being a little bit more relaxed and at ease.
Well if you feel comfortable enough closing your eyes,
Then closing the eyes.
And you're invited to notice what is already here.
What is closest to the surface this morning?
And that might be physical sensations.
It might be emotional feelings.
It might be the quality of your thoughts or the content of your thoughts or anything else.
Noticing what you're bringing into this new day.
And it's okay if you feel quite neutral at the moment,
That's alright too.
Now propelling your mind's eye forward into the day that's still to unfold.
What qualities would you like to cultivate today?
And you're invited to see if you can think of one describing word.
Now if you're starting your day feeling quite anxious,
Maybe you want to feel calmer or more grounded.
Or if there's some anger at the surface or irritation,
Maybe you want to feel more compassion or understanding.
And we don't always have to work in opposites.
So it might be that you're starting your day feeling quite neutral,
But you've been working on calling in more compassion or more ease.
So what's your describing word?
What would you like to cultivate today?
Noticing the breath that's already here.
Letting the breath travel through your body like a gentle breeze.
A wave of awareness.
And as you inhale,
Next,
Silently repeating,
I am.
And as you exhale,
Silently repeating your describing word.
Inhaling,
I am.
Exhaling,
That quality that you would like to call in and cultivate.
I am calm.
I am grounded.
I am understanding.
Whatever your word is.
And we'll take one more cycle of breath like this.
Inhaling,
I am.
Exhaling,
The thing that you want to cultivate.
And then letting the silent mantra go.
Letting go of the focus.
Coming back into your body,
Perhaps wiggling the fingers or wiggling the toes.
Thank you so much for joining me,
Beautiful person.
Wishing you a peaceful and prosperous day.
