Good evening everybody.
So how are you today?
Good.
So thank you so much for coming.
How was meditation today?
Did you enjoy?
Did you practice?
You know well?
Good.
Good for you.
But I didn't.
I wondered between my thoughts.
Today I decided to visit my mother,
You know,
In this year,
In April.
Then I am so excited about that.
After three years,
Then I am going to visit my mom.
You know,
When I do practice meditation,
So many thoughts came to my mind.
There are so many,
But when I guide you,
Then I could come back to my,
You know,
Path.
But it is not,
You know,
Permanent,
You know,
Like a practice.
Then again go back to Sri Lanka.
There are so many thoughts.
When we do meditation,
When we do practice,
That all the thoughts come to our mind.
They work around us.
They knock our mind.
Sometimes they are asking so many things too.
Then we are making so many,
You know,
Dramas.
Some of them beautiful,
Some of them very ugly.
What to do?
That is nature of the mind.
But we have to understand that nature of the mind.
That is the practice.
That is the practice.
Buddha taught us beautiful three words.
Today I am going to teach you three Pali words again.
Do you like?
What is like?
Okay.
First one is Upajjati.
Upajjati.
It is so hard.
Upajjati.
It means they arise.
Arise.
Arising.
And second one is Upathahanti.
It is so hard.
Upathahanti.
It means they remain.
They remain.
Remain.
Third one is Abbattangachati.
You know,
Gachati meaning.
Abbattangachati.
It means they disappear.
They disappear.
There are thoughts.
They are arising and also remain.
Then disappear.
When we do practice,
Meditation practice,
We have to understand that three positions.
That is the practice.
That is the mindfulness.
Where does that thoughts come from?
And also you have to understand nature of the thoughts.
You have to make a list.
Wholesome or unwholesome.
Then you have to find out and so forth that.
Buddha taught beautiful example for that.
There was a farmer.
That farmer has a rice field.
One day he went to the rice field.
Then he saw there are so many roaming wolf came to his rice field.
They destroyed whole harvest.
Then he was so sad.
He was crying.
He came back to home.
Like us.
Then Buddha taught that man,
If you want to protect your fadifil from wolf,
You have to go there very earlier.
Very earlier.
When you go there very earlier,
You can see this wolf came this area.
That wolf came that area.
You can see very well,
Very clearly.
Then you can make like a barrier.
What is the word?
I don't know.
Barrier.
And then you can do some protection.
You can put the mark or some anything.
You can protect your fadifil from wolf.
Please apply this message to your practice.
To yourself.
Think about roaming wolf like our bad thoughts.
Anger,
Jealousy,
Ego,
Anxiety,
Fear,
That kind of thoughts.
A farmer like you,
Yourself.
Now you have a spiritual mind.
Harvest mind.
You have to focus your mind very early.
Otherwise,
Your bad thoughts come to your mind.
They can destroy.
During the meditation time,
It happened to me.
That's why I told you,
We have to understand nature of the mind,
Nature of the reality.
There are three things we have to understand.
Arising,
Remain and also inspiring.
Sorry,
Disappearing.
That three position going on all the thoughts.
Another example.
One day a man decided to destroy a bamboo tree.
There was a big bamboo tree in front of his house.
It is bothering his roof.
And then he decided to destroy that bamboo tree.
Then he went to the tree with a knife.
Then he cut down the tree.
Then he went away.
After two days,
He came back again and he want to explore about bamboo tree.
Then he saw again that bamboo tree is growing up.
What did him,
Again he cut down the bamboo tree.
Then he went away.
After three weeks,
He came back to same place,
See the bamboo tree.
Again bamboo tree is growing up.
If he wants to destroy that bamboo tree,
What does he do?
He want to find the root of bamboo tree.
Right?
Root of bamboo tree.
Then pull it up.
Again,
No growing up again bamboo tree.
Right?
That beautiful message come from beautiful discourse.
We call Maha Rukasutta.
Maha meaning big.
Ruka meaning three.
Big three.
Please apply this message to your practice.
When you find your unwholesome thoughts,
Unwholesome mind,
Think,
Try to find root of that thoughts.
Then you can find sometime,
It could be little thoughts.
Then you can figure it out.
Otherwise you try to cut down,
Cut down,
Cut down.
You use big energy for that,
Then you are going to exhausted.
Then you are thinking no more meditation.
Right?
You have to apply this message.
Then just try.
Just try.
Then you can find sustainable solution for your bad unwholesome thoughts.
Okay?
I know in this year,
You have so many New Year resolution.
Do you?
Do you have New Year resolution?
No?
Yes.
People made so many things.
Before you make that resolution,
You have to think again.
Did you complete your,
You know,
Previous resolution?
As yourself.
Did you?
Sometimes we made hundred thousand resolution.
I am going to do these things end of this year.
Like that.
Beginning of year,
We have,
You know,
Big energy for that.
End of year,
We are so tired.
Today I would like to tell you just two things.
If you like to be a good person,
Loving person,
Kind person,
Whoever,
Exactly you have to explore your mind.
That is the first step.
Right?
You have to observe yourself.
That is the first step.
Then you can see your spiritual qualities.
It could be compassion,
Loving kindness,
Joyfulness,
Generosity,
Whatever.
Pick up one.
Which one is strong?
Pick up one.
Which one is strong?
Just try to develop it.
Cultivate it.
Sometimes we cannot find out your qualities.
It's okay.
Don't worry.
You have bad mind too.
In same mind.
Right?
You have unwholesome mind too.
Explore that mind.
Understand and your thoughts,
Bad thoughts.
Pick up one bad thought.
Pick up one thought.
Which one is strong?
It could be anger,
Jealousy,
Fear,
Anxiety,
Whatever.
Try to eradicate it.
When you are trying to eradicate that bad thoughts,
Automatically your good mind come up.
You have two options.
You have to explore your mind,
Good mind.
You have to explore your bad mind.
Right?
You have two options.
Then you can make your own happiness.
I think so.
This year,
Make a wish and make a plan.
Understand your weaknesses and problems inside.
In a world,
Not out world.
Okay?
Thank you so much for coming.
Keep this message and try to practice,
Try to apply when you do meditation and practice.
I think if you,
A person has planted a bad crop,
You need to change the crop.
You can buy a mantra or put a different thought into your mind.
And they peak that until that becomes a part of your very nature.
Yeah,
There are so many ways we can use to control or practice our mind.
One of practice we call loving kindness,
Mindfulness.
You can sing the bowl,
You can chant out loud and also you can remember about wholesome things.
Then you can cultivate your spiritual qualities.
There are so many ways we can find.
Okay?
Thank you so much.
Have a wonderful night.
