I’m Surprised At How Much Hormones Affect Health
by Boom Shikha
Every single time I read about hormones, I'm surprised at how many systems in my body are affected by them. And how clueless and ignorant I was about it, for the longest time. Why don't they teach this stuff in school? It's so annoying!

Hello everyone!
Welcome to another video on the Soul Vitamins community.
I am extremely grateful for all of you who showed up to the Zoom party last week,
Last Saturday,
A couple of days ago only.
And I had a lot of fun with it.
I hope that you did as well.
I really do want to do a few more of these but I just find that it takes up a lot of my time and a lot of my energy.
It's so draining because I know that the day or a couple of days after,
Even though it was fun in the moment,
I find that I spend a couple of days recovering from it.
It probably is because I don't spend that much time socializing.
So even online socializing becomes really,
Really draining on me.
But in general,
I'm really grateful and I'm sure I'm going to be doing another one of those.
Probably like a writing prompt party because I want to sit down and write with all of you.
I think that would be so much fun.
I really do hope that one day in the future,
I think that's one of my dreams,
My visualization manifesting thing,
That one day in the future I'll have an event where all of the INFJs that I've watched on my channel or the ones I interact with,
I can meet them face to face somewhere beautiful,
Set up a conference thing where we all get together and we chat and we bring each other up and we talk about important topics and things like that.
I think it would be so much fun.
So let's see when that happens.
In this one,
I wanted to speak to you about hormones and maybe this is something that you're probably not expecting.
But I've been doing a lot of work on balancing out my hormones right now,
Particularly because I am getting to that age where as a woman,
I have to start thinking about perimenopause,
Which is the phase before menopause and then menopause,
Of course.
So I think my mom went through it when she was 45,
46,
I believe.
And so I have seven years before perhaps that happens to me or maybe even earlier.
You never know with these things.
And so I've been trying to really work on this because I do notice that as I get into that stage that my hormones are getting a little bit screwy and I can notice it in the way that my skin feels,
I can notice in the way my hair feels,
My digestive system.
Of course,
My menstrual cycle is being affected by a lot of things.
And so I started doing a little bit of research on it.
And perhaps you're not aware of this.
Perhaps you are.
I was not.
I did not realize how many things,
Literally every single function,
Every single chemical reaction in your body is being affected by hormones.
If you think about something,
For example,
Dandruff,
You probably like dandruff.
It probably happens because of dry hair,
Because you're using the wrong kind of shampoo,
Or because of this or that.
You might think of all these excuses that you have or reasons why you might have dandruff.
Interestingly enough,
Dandruff is caused by hormonal changes or hormonal imbalances.
And it is literally,
I mean,
I'm not saying every single instance of it.
Perhaps sometimes it is dryness in the scalp or things like that.
But why does the dryness arise?
It's because of hormonal imbalances.
And so in a lot of cases,
Almost a majority of the cases,
It's because of hormones,
The things that you're going through.
If you're having trouble sleeping,
Hormones.
If you're having trouble falling asleep or if you're waking up in the middle of the night,
Hormones.
If you're having a hard time digesting something or if you're having a loose bowel,
Hormones.
If you have skin issues,
It's hormonal.
If you're having heart palpitations,
It's hormonal.
If you have dry eyes,
It's hormonal.
I was kind of looking at it and I'm literally surprised and baffled by how many things that are affected by hormones.
It's not even like things that you'd be thinking,
Oh,
This is definitely hormonal.
Of course,
When you think about your menstrual cycle or when you think about testosterone increase and all that stuff,
Yeah,
You think hormones.
But in a lot of cases,
You can actually just kind of step backwards and kind of go backwards to where it came from,
The symptom came from.
And it's basically essentially hormonal.
It just really fascinated me because first of all,
We don't talk about hormones as much as we should.
If hormones are affecting our bodies and the chemical reactions in our bodies and our health in such a paramount fashion,
Then why aren't we talking about it a little bit more?
Why aren't we working on it?
Why aren't we studying it?
Why aren't we in schools,
I mean?
Why aren't we teaching kids about it?
Why aren't we talking to teenagers about it?
Because at that point,
Their hormones are in flux and a lot of crazy things are going on,
But no one talks about it.
In university,
When you're taking a health lesson,
Hormones are not the thing that are on top of the priority list.
Whereas I think really that it should be.
Every health lesson,
Every nutritional lesson,
Everything related to health should be first speaking about hormones and how hormones affect everything that you are and everything that you have wrong with you or that is imbalanced in you.
It's probably because of a hormonal imbalance rather than anything else.
So I was absolutely fascinated by this and of course I started doing a little bit more research.
And recently my sister joined me in Bali and she has major issues with a bunch of different things.
She has IBS and she has hormonal issues.
She has her hair is falling out,
Things like that.
And we know that it was hormonal.
We knew that that was a problem and we realized it but we just didn't know how to fix it.
She took some pills and things like that but nothing really worked.
And thankfully I suggested to her that she should get these herbs from a local store here that makes fresh herb supplements for a wide variety of things.
Hormonal balance,
Thyroid balance,
Adrenal balance,
Things like that.
So I asked her to do it.
She did,
Thankfully.
So she took the pills and within a month,
Less than a month I would say actually,
A lot of the issues that she was having dissipated.
I mean I actually commonly am saying this out loud because she has been dealing with these issues for the last 15 years or so.
And we didn't know what to do about it.
10 years maybe even,
10,
12 years.
And so we had no idea what to do about it.
She was racking her brain trying to figure out what should I do,
What should I do,
What should I do.
Just couldn't figure it out.
Finally,
This thing,
A few pills a day,
Herbal supplements.
And the structure of her body,
The way her face looks,
The way her hair looks,
The way she feels in her body,
She says,
Completely different.
Magnificently different,
Magnanimously different,
Astronomically different.
And I just literally want to sit here and do a slow clap for those pills but also I want to get a little bit angry because instead of doctors telling you that,
Hey it might be hormonal,
Do something to fix that.
They'll just give you random pills or they'll tell you,
Oh go exercise.
Which could help but not as fast as these pills did.
Or they would tell you,
Oh it's your fault,
You're not exercising enough.
Or you're too fat or you're too this or too this.
Whereas literally it wasn't all of that.
It was the fact that her hormones were not balanced because of whatever was going on in her body.
And the fact that she started taking the pills helped a lot.
She's also started doing acupuncture.
So that's helping as well and acupuncture is really good for that.
Really,
Really good for hormonal balance.
So I'm really happy that she's doing that as well.
But it's just astounding to me how ignorant a lot of consumers and me included are about our own bodies.
And we walk around with it all day long.
We live in our bodies.
We are present in it,
Hopefully.
And despite that,
Despite the fact that we have these bodies for years and years and years and years and years,
Decades,
We still have no idea what it's all about.
We don't learn anything about it.
We don't know how it functions.
We pretend like it's just going to go on working as it does without even doing anything about it.
We get surprised or angry when it doesn't work the way we want it to work.
We don't help it at all.
We don't do anything to make sure that it works properly or functions properly.
It just seems like if we had a computer,
My MacBook Air probably gets more care from me and more repairs and inspections from me than my body does sometimes.
Do you know what I mean?
I'm sure you're spending more time and energy and money on fixing your cars and your phones and your cameras and your houses than you are on the time that you spend thinking about your body.
And wondering,
Okay,
I'm not feeling good here.
What can I do about it?
Can I take this pill?
Can I go here?
What should I do?
Should I go do some research?
Should I talk to this person?
Etc.
We don't think about that.
If we just go to a doctor,
He gives us a pill,
That's it.
We're done.
If it works,
It works great.
Awesome.
If it doesn't work,
Then we go back and we get another pill and maybe hopefully that works.
And if it doesn't work,
We go back,
Get another pill.
That's it.
We don't think about it.
We don't do our own research.
If we do,
It's superficial and a lot of times it's like,
Alright,
Well,
Maybe it's meant to be like this.
It's wear and tear.
A lot of people tell me,
Oh yeah,
Once you turn 30 or once you turn 40,
Everything just goes down the drain.
You don't have to worry about it.
It's just going to happen.
And I'm like,
I don't accept that.
I mean,
Yes,
Of course,
Wear and tear happens,
But there are definitely things you can do about it.
The more I read about it,
The more I learn about it,
The more I realize,
Yes,
Definitely you can.
It's just that we remain ignorant.
I remained ignorant about my own body and my hormones,
About all of the different structures in my body for so,
So long.
As if pretending like everything's just going to work out,
As if it's like a machine and I just need to oil it every single day or every few days and it should be fine.
Or I just need to put fuel in it and it'll be okay.
I don't have to worry about anything else.
And if it does fail,
Then,
Oh man,
I have free healthcare in Canada,
Whatever,
It doesn't matter.
I can just go and get it fixed.
And that kind of thinking now that I think about it,
It just seems so ridiculous and so,
So,
It's just so disempowering.
You know,
It's not like you're like,
Okay,
Yeah,
Well,
Something goes wrong.
I can do something about it.
You're like,
Well,
Something goes wrong.
I can't do anything about it.
I'm going to pretend like I can't do anything about it.
I'm not going to do any work to research on it.
And I'm just going to let this doctor who talks to me for 10 seconds figure out what's wrong with me and give me some pill for it.
And that's it.
That's it.
That's all I'm going to do.
That's my role in this.
Even though I've been living in this body for the last 38 years,
It doesn't really matter.
I'm not going to try to get to know it.
I'm not going to try to get to know what's going on with it.
I'm going to pretend like it's just an appendage,
This is just part of me that I just need to look at.
I just need to look at perfunctually and superficially and maybe I'll do this or that for it.
Maybe I'll put some food in it.
But whenever it starts acting cranky or doesn't work the way I want it to work,
Then I have to just force it to work the way I want it to work.
You know,
I'm just going to pretend like I'm not in pain.
I'm just going to pretend like my shoulders are not in pain or my back is not in pain.
I'm just going to pretend like I'm not tired when I am.
You know,
Like my body,
I'm just going to force it to do things that I want it to do because how dare it not do what I want it to do.
And all of this,
I'm sure perhaps you're not like this,
Perhaps you're better than me.
But in a lot of cases I have noticed this from a lot of people around me.
Even people who are doing 3 or 4 hours of yoga every single day,
I look at them and I'm like,
Why are you doing that to yourself?
Why are you forcing your body to do something that it should not be doing?
You're going to get injured and then they do and then they're surprised by it.
I'm like,
No one else is surprised by it because the way you've been treating your body,
It is really,
Really acceptable or it is not a surprise at all that it got hurt.
And then they won't learn the lesson and I don't learn the lesson sometimes either and I'll just keep on doing the same thing over and over again.
Once I heal,
I do the same thing over again.
Why?
Why?
Why?
Why?
And so I'm not going to say I have all the answers but I do want to say that if you're having any issue in your body,
Especially if you're a woman,
Please go check out your hormones.
Do some research on it.
Get some acupuncture treatments if possible.
Go to an astropath.
Get some herbal supplements and really look at it.
Look at what's going on in your body and try to figure out if it is hormonal based because in a lot of cases it is.
And for men as well,
I'm sure they don't have as many hormonal imbalances as we do but I'm sure there are some things going on there as well,
Particularly because there's a lot of food containing estrogen and other hormones in them,
Particularly chicken and meat.
So a lot of men end up getting a lot of extra hormones than they should in their bodies,
Especially if they eat meat or chicken.
And so you have to be careful.
You have to kind of watch out for all this stuff.
So this is my rant for the day.
It literally is surprising to me the way I treat my body sometimes.
I should be ashamed but it's just so prevalent in society.
I think everyone just does it.
It's just normal.
You don't take care of your body and you pretend like it's something that is just going to work automatically and if it doesn't,
You get angry and upset with it.
I don't know why we do these things.
I don't know why we're not taught to preserve our bodies,
To take care of it and to be kind to it and to listen to it.
I don't understand why this is not something that's taught but it's not and I think it's really something you have to unlearn all of that other nonsense and you really have to learn that your body has a mind of its own.
It has things that it needs and you need to be careful of it and to take care of it and to give it what it needs rather than force it to do things that you think we should be doing or you think that's how it should run.
So I'm going to stop talking right now because oh my god,
Look at this video how long it is.
Anyways,
Thank you so much for listening to my rant and I'd love to hear your opinion on the matter.
How do you treat your body?
Are you the kind of person who is kind to it?
If you're kind of,
You're probably not.
But I'd love to hear your opinion on it and again thank you so much for listening,
For watching.
I shall see you the next time around.
Bye.
