Here's a few minutes to reconnect with truth from a Three Prince of Horse perspective.
And in this session,
I'm exploring how you are not your roles.
And when I talk about roles,
I don't just mean the labels that we wear like mother,
Daughter,
Son,
Husband,
Maybe the role of your actual job that you do,
All those things that we call ourselves.
You're definitely not that.
And we can see that really easy,
Can't we?
Because there's something very transient about those things.
Even if we do remain a mother,
It changes,
Doesn't it?
The role,
What that actually means and what it involves changes.
I've seen that so much in my own life as my children have reached their mid-twenties now,
And that role is very different to how it was when they were little.
But even putting that aside,
Let's be absolutely clear that we are not those roles.
It's not just that,
It's all the things that we think we're supposed to be like.
Like I know so many women who think they're supposed to be superwoman,
That they're supposed to have it all under control,
That they're supposed to be the one who organizes or the one who cleans or the one who cares for people.
And that that can act like a sort of,
Well,
It ends up being like part of the inner critic,
I think,
Really,
Because once we've decided that we are the strong one or the high achiever or whatever it is,
Then we can use that as a great big stick to beat ourselves up with.
Now,
These roles that we believe are us form all the way through life from being very,
Very young.
I often categorize myself as a high achiever and I know that started early on because I can remember being like eight or nine years old and being in competition for another girl for top of the class.
I even remember her name.
So that role was picked up somewhere in my childhood fairly early on and it definitely became a stick to beat myself up with that eventually led to burnout when it turned out there was not that much satisfaction in reaching the top of the ladder,
Not what I thought there would be anyway.
What there is to see that's true here is that our roles are just thought-created stories.
They're not the truth of us.
What is the truth of us then if it isn't the passing roles?
Well,
Maybe it's helpful to see that those passing roles are like trains passing through a station and that you are the platform or you're on the platform watching those trains go past.
And there'll always be trains going past,
Trains of thoughts,
Trains of ideas,
Trains of stories,
Trains of roles.
But when you've got your feet really grounded on the platform and you take a breath,
There's some stillness there and that's the truth of you.
So when you find yourself beating yourself up because you're not achieving what you think you should be achieving in a particular role,
That's a story.
Maybe just feel your feet on the ground and take a breath and see that that's not the truth of you.
I really hope this little exploration's been helpful and please do check out more of what I've got to say from a three principles perspective.
Take care,
Lots of love,
Thank you for being here.
