
Discovering You Have Cancer
This is a guided meditation (long version) that will focus on supporting you after you have learned you have cancer. We will use a mixture of visualisation, breathing, and affirmations to ground ourselves, return to the moment we were told we had cancer, and release emotions around the situation. Being diagnosed with cancer can come as such a shock,
Especially when you might have felt well and had no idea there was anything wrong in your body.
The word cancer can bring with it a lot of fear and cause anxiety and worry to both the person diagnosed and their loved ones.
Often what initially comes to mind are worst case scenarios from people who have shared their stories,
Pain and losses.
Being diagnosed with cancer can make us fear death and bring worry about the consequences on our parents,
Children,
Families and friends.
This puts additional stress on our bodies,
The unknown,
The long road,
The impact to our bodies and minds,
All of this being out of our control.
There will be many emotions and questions that arise.
The thought of going through treatment,
Whether it be chemotherapy,
Immunotherapy,
Surgery,
Radiation and medications can be scary,
Impactful to our bodies and not what we would have chosen for ourselves.
This meditation will focus on supporting you after you have learnt you have cancer,
Whether you choose to undertake treatment or not.
It is to help calm your body and your mind and balance out the initial emotions you are experiencing.
Regular meditation can help you keep your body in a calm and balanced state,
Which will benefit you throughout this journey as it unfolds.
Let's start by finding a quiet place,
Making yourself comfortable,
Either sitting or laying down.
If you are comfortable to,
Close your eyes or lower your gaze and slowly settle yourself.
Take in a few deep breaths,
In your nose and out of your mouth.
You have nowhere else to be,
Nothing else to do.
Allow yourself to be present here in this moment.
When your mind wanders,
Just acknowledge the thought,
Don't judge it,
Release it with love and acceptance and return to my voice.
Set the intention,
As you breathe throughout this meditation,
That you are breathing in calm,
Loving,
Healing energy,
And breathing out any fears,
Stress or emotion that needs to be released now.
Notice your breathing,
Notice how the breath comes into your body,
How it fills your body and how it is released.
Notice your own rhythm,
Keep breathing in calm,
Loving energy and breathing out fears,
Stresses,
Emotions.
As we breathe,
We are going to ground ourselves.
Grounding is where we connect our body to the earth's natural energy.
This can be done by physically touching the ground,
Like walking barefoot on grass,
Dirt or sand.
This balances out the static energy in our bodies.
And can reduce inflammation,
Reduce anxiety and calm our nervous system down.
Now in this meditation,
We are going to imagine we are doing this,
Which can have a similar effect.
We are going to imagine we have tree roots coming out of our feet,
That are going to grow deep,
Deep,
Deep,
Down into the centre of the earth,
To connect with the earth's natural energy.
Down,
Down,
Down,
Through the layers of the earth,
Until the tree roots get to the inner core.
Feel the strength of the roots,
They hold you firm and solid and safe.
You are supported,
You are connected,
And you are safe.
Feel the connection with the earth's core.
Imagine and feel the roots,
Releasing any fear,
Anxiety,
Sadness,
Guilt and anger into the earth.
And I release fear,
I release anxiety,
I release sadness,
I release guilt,
I release anger,
I release shock and disbelief,
And feel it release into the earth.
If any other emotion comes to mind that needs to be released,
Let it go now.
See the emotions run through your body,
Out your feet,
Into the tree roots and into the centre of the earth to be released and healed.
Take a few deep breaths in and out and imagine your emotions are being released.
Continue this for the next few minutes.
We are going to think back now,
To where you were when you heard about your diagnosis.
Picture the scene,
Was it in the hospital or clinic,
In a doctor's office,
Over the telephone,
Who was with you,
What do you notice,
What do you see,
What do you hear.
Tap now into the feeling that hit your body,
The moment you realised you had cancer.
Where did this impact you the most,
Your head,
Your heart,
Your stomach,
Your throat,
Your gut,
Your chest,
Or just a whole of body experience,
Or has your mind protected you by blocking this memory at this time.
If you feel emotion,
Take some deep breaths in and out and let the emotion flow.
If you can reach,
Put your hands on this part of your body,
Feel the emotion,
Acknowledge it,
Don't judge it,
Don't question it,
You don't even have to name it,
Just feel it,
Thank it for showing up in protection of you and breathe into it.
And release it,
Allow it to flow down your body and out your feet into the earth.
Repeat in your mind,
I am safe,
I release this emotion I am feeling,
I am safe,
I am safe,
And keep breathing.
Picture it moving and releasing on your exhale,
Down your feet and into the earth.
If large emotions come up,
Don't resist them,
Allow them to flow,
Take your time here and love yourself in this moment,
Accepting you have these emotions and releasing them for your health and well-being.
Focus on the words,
I am safe,
Even if you don't feel them,
Keep repeating them with conviction.
Say to yourself,
I release these emotions,
I don't need them in my body anymore,
I accept them and know it is ok to have experienced them and choose to release them now.
Now we are going to grow the top of the tree,
We have tall branches and leaves and a trunk growing out of the crown of our head,
Up,
Up,
Up,
High into the clouds,
Imagine the top goes way up,
High above the clouds and connects higher into the heavens.
Feel the tips of the leaves swaying in the breeze and you feel a connection with something positive and calm and loving,
You feel protected,
Connected and peaceful.
We are going to now bring in,
Through the crown of our heads,
Green healing light.
This is going to fill up our bodies,
From the top of our heads,
Through our head,
Neck,
Chest,
Heart,
Lungs,
Stomach,
Kidneys,
Bladder,
Liver,
Gallbladder and other organs.
See the green filling all of the organs,
As well as your arms,
Legs and down out of your feet.
See the loving green light fill your body and bring in love,
Healing,
Calm,
Peace and trust.
Breathe the green energy into your body,
Feel it surround the part of your body your hands are or were resting.
Breathe in the green healing energy through your head,
Flushing all anxiety and fear out of your body,
Deep into the earth on each exhale.
If anything comes to mind,
Any thoughts,
Emotions or questions,
That's okay,
Let them come and go,
With no judgement,
Just bring yourself back to my voice and focus on your breathing.
Continue to breathe this through your body.
As you breathe in,
Say to yourself in your mind,
I am safe and secure,
And as you breathe out,
Say to yourself in your mind,
I release all fear and anxiety.
Continue repeating as you breathe,
I am safe and secure,
I release all fear and anxiety.
Now return to breathing in the green healing light.
As you breathe in,
Say to yourself,
I nurture and trust myself,
And as you breathe out,
Say to yourself,
I release all anger and frustration.
I nurture and trust myself,
I release all anger and frustration.
Now return to breathing in the green healing light.
As you breathe in,
Say to yourself,
I have strength and support,
And as you breathe out,
Say to yourself,
I release the need to control,
I have strength and support,
I release the need to control.
Now return to breathing in the green healing light.
Return your attention now to your whole body.
Feel your whole body,
From the top of your head,
To your toes.
Feel the sensation of your body,
Sitting or laying down.
Enjoy the quiet,
The peace,
The calm.
We are now going to balance out the energy in our bodies.
Move your right hand and rest it on your forehead,
And your left hand just below your belly button.
Rest here for a couple of minutes,
And imagine your hands are sending love and healing to your body.
Feel the warmth grow.
Move your right hand and lightly place it on your throat,
And your left hand just above your belly button.
Rest here for a couple of minutes,
And imagine your hands are sending love and healing to your body.
Feel the warmth grow.
Move your right hand now to your chest,
Just above your breastbone,
And your left hand to just below your breastbone.
Rest here for a couple of minutes,
And imagine your hands are sending love and healing to your body.
Feel the warmth grow.
Take a deep breath in,
And out.
Repeat this again,
In,
And out.
Rub your palms together now,
And then place them over your eyes.
Take a deep breath in,
And out,
And remove your hands,
And start to make slow movements with your body.
Wriggle your toes,
Wriggle your fingers,
Slowly stretch and bring yourself fully back to this room.
When you are ready,
Open your eyes.
