#35 We Live A Common Dream | Yoga Sutras Of Patanjali
Patanjali says that this experience of the world is only there for the sake of the experiencer. When both the experience and the experiencer merge in deep samadhi, the dream is broken and we recognize ourselves as pure consciousness. For that yogi, there is liberation, yet for others, the dream continues. Join me in a 30 min meditation session every day at 7 AM CET on my website.

Namaste and a very warm welcome to all of you in this daily live meditation session with me,
Dhyansai.
We're going through Yoga Sutras of Patanjali.
You come to Yoga,
You come to meditation,
To spirituality.
When there is no happiness in life,
When there is some misery to be solved,
When you have realized that the way you are approaching life,
The way you're approaching things is not working and maybe there is something fundamentally that needs to change.
But the way you approach yoga,
The way you approach meditation,
The way you approach spirituality also has to be understood,
Has to be set right.
Yoga,
Meditation,
Spirituality is not a pill.
It is not a technique.
It is not something that you can do outside the realm of how you are living and then you go back and continue the madness,
Continue the misery creation for yourself.
Yoga,
Meditation,
Spirituality,
They are very well integrated in your life.
They only function when they are integrated in the very core of how you live life,
Who you are,
Your understanding,
Your wisdom of life.
So they don't work on the surface.
They don't work in a way where you can access them from a distance.
You have to get involved.
You have to get intimate because it goes to the very core of your being.
It goes to the very depth of your heart.
It goes to the very depth of your mind and completely transforms everything from the very root,
Especially the mind because all the problems that we have created for ourselves is most of it,
I would say even all of it,
Is arising out of the mind that we have put for ourselves.
The whole purpose of yoga,
Meditation,
Spirituality is to recreate what we call as mind which allows the functioning of the heart,
Which allows the functioning of the being once again.
So the process is somewhat reverse.
It has to take you through the unlearning,
The unconditioning,
The un-minding that you have built for yourself which is creating all the miseries for which you are looking for a solution,
For which you are searching for an answer.
We are in the phase of Yoga Sutras of Patanjali where Patanjali is exactly hitting on this point of the misery creation by explaining you the nature of existence,
By explaining you the nature of how things function for you,
How the experience that you are experiencing functions for you.
What is this experience?
What is the nature of this experience?
And he through step by step journey which we have been taking over the last sessions,
He is step by step explaining and not just intellectually putting out a sutra but allowing you to also develop,
Allowing you to also grow and realize on your own whatever is expounded in the sutra.
And he says that this experience is an illusion.
This experience is something,
The scene,
He is calling it the scene,
S-e-e-n.
The scene,
He is saying the scene that you have not just visually but the entire experience that you have and the one who is the seer,
Who is in you,
Who is experiencing,
Who you think gets happy when he gets what he wants,
When he is fulfilling the desires.
So the scene,
The outside the scene and the seer,
The experience and the experiencer,
He is putting that on a very crystal clear plane for you to understand the nature of what is going on,
What is this phenomena.
And so far he had elaborated what is this scene,
He had elaborated what is this seer and he is saying both of these are somewhat of an illusion.
What is real is seeing is the experiencing is that continuity which never breaks,
Which always exists but this whole scene is created along with the seer.
Let us go through a couple of more sutras on this very point before we sit in for meditation for today.
Patanjali says,
Tad earth eva drishti sya atna.
What that means is the scene exists only for the sake of the seer.
The experience,
It exists only for the sake of the experiencer.
What that means is this experience is not real,
The experiencer is also not real but they exist for each other.
The scene exists for the seer,
The experience exists for the experiencer and the other way around as well.
You think that you exist for the experience,
You have this life for going through this experience.
That is the best explanation that we can give to ourselves for this phenomena of what is happening,
This consciousness that is somewhat there,
There is an opening in that consciousness where we suddenly have the sense of the experiencer,
Have the sense of the experience and we are just continuing to enjoy in this process also in misery of this process.
It is the way it is,
We don't know why it is but the only explanation we can give to ourselves to the seer is that the scene exists for the seer,
The experience exists for the experiencer and the experiencer exists for the experience.
That is the best meaning we can give in the most mundane way to ourselves for this life,
For this phenomena that is happening of experience.
Then he says,
Krita Artham Prati Nashtam Api Anashtam Tadanya Sadarthan Atvat Although destroyed for one who has attained liberation,
It still exists for others being common to them.
Here he is talking about that although destroyed for one who has attained liberation,
Destroyed what this whole idea,
This whole framework that is happening,
This has somehow broken apart for the one who is meditating,
For the one who through meditation,
Through yoga has attained to liberation,
Has attained to a state where he can see through this process,
Where he is no more confined in the illusion of the experience,
No more confined in the illusion of the experiencer and somehow he has grown out of this process,
He has become the experiencing,
He realizes his true nature that he is pure consciousness and everything is arising out of that.
For that person,
This entire phenomena is destroyed for the one who has attained liberation.
However,
It still exists for others being common to them.
This entire perception of this experience,
It still exists for everyone else.
It is somewhat like if you are out of the sleep and everyone else is dreaming,
For everyone else the dream still exists,
You have woken up,
For you the dream has ended.
And this world that we live in is somewhat of a common dream that we all are dreaming together.
We have an interface on things,
On labels where we believe that we are sharing a common dream although we also have a completely individual experience of our own,
Of the same thing but we also have an agreement that this world,
This experience that we are having,
We are all on the same page,
We are having some sort of a common experience and that is why even if one person is out of the dream,
Everyone else is still in the dream,
They still can confirm that yes,
The dream is real for them who are still asleep and for the one who is awake,
He or she is out of the dream,
For him it does not exist anymore.
The next sutra says,
Sva-Svaami-Sakteo-Svarupa-Svarupa-Upalabdhi-Hetu-Samyoga.
The union of the seer and the seen causes the recognition of the nature and powers of them both.
So this union is again represented by what he means,
Patanjali means by this union is when you realize your true nature,
When you realize that you are pure consciousness,
There is only experiencing,
There is no experience,
There is no experiencer.
When you realize that,
Both of these two come together,
They have a union,
They have a yoga,
What that means is,
You realize that both of them emerge source out of one and that one is pure consciousness,
That one is simply experiencing.
When you know that,
Then you are the master of both,
You understand the power of this illusion of this experience,
You understand the power of the seer,
The experiencer who is within you and more importantly,
You understand how to manage that.
You are no longer carried away here and there simply by the desires,
Simply by the thoughts,
Simply by whatever this experience is taking you into a certain direction or whatever is the experiencer wanting,
Desiring and wishing in life,
You are much more on top of it,
You are the master,
You are in control of both the experiencer,
Experience and the experiencer.
With that,
Let us move into silence,
Let us have this union of the experience and the experiencer.
Please close your eyes,
Take a posture that is comfortable for you,
In a nice deep breath,
Inhale from the nose and exhale from the nose,
Allowing your body to rest,
Allowing your mind to somewhat settle,
Giving you these moments to move within,
To have an awareness of the experience,
Not caught up in the mundane,
In the thoughts,
In the routines of life,
But rather these few minutes,
This chance to turn inwards and understand our nature,
Understand its phenomena.
And with every breath,
Allowing yourself to settle more in the moment,
An awareness inwards,
In your inner space.
Close the experience of this moment,
Whatever your experience of this moment is,
Of your body,
Is the body still or moving,
Having sensations in comfort or in pain,
Feeling your mind restful or restless.
Whatever is the experience of this moment,
Acknowledge that.
All this experience that you are having in this moment is for the sake of the seer,
The one who is experiencing.
All this experience that you are having in this moment is for the sake of the seer,
The one who is experiencing the experiencer,
The seer.
And your awareness towards the seer.
Awareness back to the experience.
And awareness switching to the experiencer.
For the next minutes,
Keep on moving from the experiencer to the experiencer.
Few moments on the experience.
And then few moments on the experiencer.
Until they both merge,
Until there is a union of the seen and the seer.
Until you cannot make a difference anymore.
And you are thrown in this very moment,
In pure awareness,
Pure consciousness.
Allowing everything to happen on its own.
In this moment,
Nothing else is left except for the seer.
Except for awareness.
Always on pure consciousness.
Everything else fades away in the background.
Don't hold on to anything.
Let go.
This state is your true nature.
It always exists.
There is always peace,
Truth,
Silence,
Beauty,
Bliss in this pure consciousness.
Remain in this state as long as you like.
All very gently and slowly you may open your eyes with me.
Slowly allowing the experience to rise in your consciousness,
The sense of experiencer to also come back.
I will see you tomorrow at 7 am Central European Time.
Namaste.
