When you take a dive deep into the ocean, you realize that the world is not only on the surface but also into the depths, infinite, alive, vivid. The same is with our inner world. While we take a dive into it, Patanjali provides us a framework to navigate through the depths. He says, there are 4 levels with an object in concentration: 1. Reasoning 2. Reflection 3. Bliss 4. Being

Namaste and a very warm welcome to all of you in this daily morning live meditation session with me,

Dhyansa.

My salutations to Patanjali for the knowledge that he shines on us for the upliftment of our consciousness and our life.

If you haven't taken a dive in the ocean,

Go do that.

Before you talk about yoga,

Before you get into meditation,

Take a dive into the ocean.

It is somewhat of a game changer because we live on the surface and we live so much on the surface that we neglect the depths.

We can never imagine what's in the depths.

But once you take a dive into the ocean,

Especially the first dive in the ocean,

When you go deep into the ocean,

You see an entirely new world,

A world which was never even in your imagination,

A feeling which you can never imagine or replicate on the surface,

A connection to existence like you can never have on the surface while you are in the mundane things.

This is not an advertisement of diving,

But my point here is that once you see that there is life on surface and then there is a huge infinite depth that you start going in and realizing what all is out there,

Meditation,

Yoga is somewhat of a similar process.

When you are living your life on the surface,

You don't really care,

You don't really are concerned with what is in the depths.

When you close your eyes in the night,

You fall asleep.

You are not really in the depths.

But when you close your eyes and you are awake and you are open to the depths,

Your inner depths,

They are far more infinite,

Multi-dimensional,

Infinity,

Inside,

More than what you can even see in the oceans or any depths of the physical world.

These depths are not only deep,

But they are rich,

They are rich with life,

They are rich with exploration,

With experience,

Which you cannot replicate in any other form.

Why that experience?

One just for the sake of the experience,

To have the experience of what is possible.

Isn't it what we are doing also on the surface,

Trying to have as much experience as possible.

So why not also explore this dimension,

This inner dimension and explore it to the fullest.

And secondly,

What happens on the surface is all a variable of what happens in the depths.

So if you want to understand how you are functioning on the surface,

What is happening on the surface,

What all is going on in your life on the surface,

What lies underneath,

For that you have to close your eyes.

You have to be in yoga,

You have to be in dhyana,

In meditation,

To go in your depths,

Explore,

See what is all out there.

To explore these depths,

Patanjali helps us with sutras,

He gives frameworks,

Pointers,

So that we don't get lost.

Depths are good to explore,

But with care,

With framework,

With the guidance,

With somebody who can accompany you in those depths,

Otherwise there is a chance that you may get lost.

Even if you get lost,

It's still worth it.

So it's not a question of getting lost or not getting lost,

It's a question of whether you want to achieve something by going into those depths.

If you want to achieve,

Which is to meet your truth,

To meet your true being,

To meet your true self,

And on the surface,

Live truthfully,

Live with your eyes open,

Then you have to be in guidance,

You have to follow certain frameworks for a certain amount of time.

Once you know the terrain,

Once you know the depths,

Once you are familiar with what to do,

Then you may even leave the guidance,

You may leave the guide,

And be on your own,

Explore right,

Left,

Up,

Down,

Infinite depths of your own being.

Others for today,

From Patanjali,

Patanjali says,

Vitharka vichara ananda asmita,

Rupan ugamat samprajnata.

Vitharka,

Reasoning,

Vichara,

Reflection or discernation,

Ananda,

Bliss,

Asmita,

The pure being,

Rupan ugamat samprajnata,

Means these are the four forms of,

Or the four depths of samadhi,

Of concentration,

Of meditation.

When you are going into the inner world,

And you are diving by layer by layer,

You will come across these four depths,

The reasoning,

The reflection,

The bliss,

And pure being,

Or the sense of emness.

I will go through these one by one,

Connected,

There is one more sutra.

Virama pratyaya abhyasa purva samskara seishon anya.

What that means is,

In these two sutras,

Patanjali is describing samadhi,

Concentration.

He is describing that there are two types of concentration,

Two types of samadhi,

Two types of meditation,

To very simply put.

And these are somewhat in order,

There is an order of the practice,

There is an order of the depths.

The first is what he calls as samprajnata samadhi,

What that means is,

With the object,

A samadhi,

A concentration,

A meditation,

Which has an object,

Meaning while you are focusing,

While you are bringing your attention and awareness to your inner world,

You start off by focusing on your breath,

Or on your body,

On your mind,

And this is when you are focusing,

Your awareness has an object.

And that object is what is known as samprajnata samadhi,

That there is an object in your concentration.

And then the second is a samprajnata samadhi,

Which means that you have no object in your concentration.

That is far more advanced.

So if you take the analogy of the ocean depths,

You see,

First of all,

We live in reason,

We live on the surface in reason,

Our whole world is constructed out of reason.

Your reason,

My reason,

Our reason,

If we meet on the reason,

There is an agreement,

There is an association,

And we start forming the world.

If there is no reason,

Then we are in conflict,

And we start fighting on the surface.

We base everything on reason,

Thinking that reason is the foundation,

Reason is something to be trusted,

Reason is the core primary unit that we must put in and build everything on top.

Those who understand themselves,

Who have gone through their inner depths,

They see just below the reason,

Just one inch below the reason is something,

A process that is already taking a position.

You are already taking a position and reason comes afterwards.

See that before the reason,

Underneath the reason,

There is a position that you have taken,

There is a destination,

Meaning you have already decided,

You have already taken a position,

This or that.

And all what you are doing with reasoning in any situation is to defend that position,

Is to make sure that the other person also takes that position.

So it's not the other way around that you have an unbiased reason which allows you to take a position,

But it is the other way around that you always take the position first and then you start reasoning it out.

That is why no statistics can ever tell you the truth.

No data can ever tell you the truth because the way you interpret the data,

You have already taken the position and all what you see is what you want to see,

All what the data conveys is what you want the data to convey.

It is applicable everywhere in our life,

How we make our judgments as an individual,

How we make our judgments as a group and how we decide for the entire society,

Decide for the entire world.

So pay attention to this process,

That reason is something that happens on the surface afterwards,

Before that there is this discernment,

There is already a positioning that you take and while you are in silence,

While you are in meditation,

You see this process,

That reason,

Thought,

Everything is on the surface,

Below that is your positioning.

And once you lose these two,

Once you let go your grip on the reason,

On the thoughts,

On the positioning that you take,

Is where you are in the depths,

Is where you are in the depths of the ocean where you don't see the surface,

Where there is a silent depth which is filled with bliss.

A certain bliss ananda arises when you do that,

Why?

Because you have left the surface,

You have left all this conflict of reason,

Of taking a position,

Of making others take that position,

Taking and when you submerge yourself further down in your depths with awareness,

There is this immense silence,

Bliss ananda which you can experience the moment you step down from reasoning,

From thoughts in your mind.

Then one step down further,

When you are even going deeper,

When you have only silence,

When you have only bliss,

You pay attention to the emness,

The being,

You start seeing that there is something also underneath the silence,

There is this emness,

There is this feeling of I am,

Without the I,

Just the emness.

And that's where the journey does not end,

But it is a significant milestone in the journey while going through your inner depths.

In meditation today,

We will take this dive within,

We will watch our thoughts,

Our reasoning,

We will watch our positioning,

We will watch our bliss,

Our silence and we will watch the emness,

The sense of being and then tomorrow we will talk about what happens even further in the depths.

With that,

Please close your eyes,

Take a comfortable position with your back upright.

Mahaya.

In order to prepare to go in our inner depths,

Bring your awareness to your breath,

Give your mind,

Your awareness,

All your energies an object.

That object is your breath.

To draw yourself from all directions,

Come at one object,

Your breath.

As you do that,

Your body settles,

Your more present,

Your awareness stable.

And shift this awareness to your mind,

To your thoughts,

To whatever is going on in your mind,

Without touching them,

Without getting involved,

Simply observe your mind.

Notice the inner chatter,

Notice the rise and falling of thoughts,

Allow yourself to further sink into your mind,

Let the thoughts be where they are,

An awareness slowly sinking deeper than the thought.

Notice underneath the thoughts,

This awareness,

You've taken a stance,

A position which you were not aware of earlier,

Gently let go,

Release this position,

Allowing your awareness to release this position,

Your mind to rest.

At all times let your awareness sink in your inner space,

With its own weight,

Don't hold your awareness,

Let it sink slowly going deeper and deeper in yourself.

Leaving the mind slowly behind,

Releasing all positions.

And sinking into silence with awareness,

Notice a sense of peace,

Ananda,

Bliss,

A glimpse,

A taste,

A sense of peace,

A sense of peace,

Awareness sinking deeper with its own weight.

And notice a sense of emness,

I am without the I,

The presence,

Keep your awareness on this presence as you sink deeper in inner silence.

All right.

.

Stay in this ever sinking awareness with a sense of presence.

The presence of emptiness.

If you wish to continue in this meditative silence,

Keep your eyes closed,

Let yourself completely go.

Or very gently and slowly,

You may open your eyes,

Maintaining this presence from your inner depths,

Maintaining this silence,

This bliss from your inner depths,

Maintaining a sense of awareness of your own mind.

Practice this during your day.

I'll see you tomorrow at 7 am,

Central European Time.

Namaste.

The relationship between taking a position and reasoning you discuss is interesting. As always, I find these satsangs and meditations on the Sutras clear and valuable.
