Hello,
Welcome everyone.
Good morning,
Good evening depending on where you guys are.
I would like to hear a few words from you.
Please let me know your names,
Where you are from and of course why you are interested in our today's session,
In our topic that we are going to discuss.
And of course as I always say I am very open to hearing your feedback,
To answering your questions,
Knowing your experience,
Opinions.
We may disagree on some moments or if you think likewise,
Also let me know.
So let me introduce myself shortly.
My name is Diana Mirceiva.
I am a life coach,
A philosopher and a meditation teacher here on Insight Timer.
The topic of our life event for today is mutual influence of mind and body.
In the previous episodes we had a session on how mind influences the body and during another life event we were discussing how body influences the mind.
So today we will try to concentrate more on the mutual influence,
So on something of a deeper level so to say.
Well,
Also let's wait a couple of more minutes.
I know that more people will join the room so everyone will be in the context.
If you have any questions about the previous episodes or if you couldn't have a chance to catch up with the previous information also you can let me know right now in the beginning.
And of course I would like to thank you all for being here,
For your presence,
For creating such a special,
Friendly,
Supportive and healing atmosphere.
Well,
At least this is how I feel it here on Insight Timer.
I deeply love this application,
This platform and I would like to mention that donations here are very welcome.
They will be gone to contributors,
To myself for hosting this life event and of course to the platform.
So it will be all divided and this way we will be able to have more life events like this,
More high quality courses and of course the professional team that makes it all real and accessible for all of us and of course for the wide library of guided meditations.
Alright so let's go to our today's session and what we will be talking today about is difficult to separate.
So it will be quite difficult to say whether it is the influence of mind or whether it starts from the body.
So that is why the name of the event is Mutual Influence.
And I have been into the topic of mind-body connection for quite a while already and this is what makes me interested in my professional work and I guess this topic just is so special for me because it is everywhere in our lives.
So in each aspect where there is a human being we can see the importance and presence of mind-body connection.
So recently I would like to share it with you guys.
I have taken up,
I have started a professional course in psychosomatics.
If you've heard about that it is a science,
Nowadays we can call it definitely a science that looks at a person in the context of mind-body connection.
And when I realized that oh my god this is what really can help me deepen my knowledge and that there is such a science that has the same values and view on human being as I had previously.
I was just fascinated so I immediately taken up this course.
And psychosomatics where psycho means soul or can be related to mind in our context and soma is a body.
It is a science based on biology and evolution,
How our bodies react to stress,
React with illnesses or some specific conditions and of course we will talk about stress a bit later today.
So let's start with the first moment that I would like to pay attention to is our emotions.
So let's say that there are quite a few emotions,
Right?
We can say that I feel happy,
I feel great,
I feel good and I am desperate or I'm frightened.
So let's say that emotions is our mind,
Right?
So we can put it into these words and this is our emotional state,
Kind of related to the mental state and Andrew Huberman calls it the brain body loops.
This is how emotions are created.
And the question for you guys right now is how do you feel?
What emotions do you have right now?
So ask yourself this question,
Try to understand what's your emotional state?
And of course I would like to see your answers if you don't mind sharing them.
If it is difficult for you to find a specific word that describes your emotion now you can evaluate your emotional state from 1 to 10.
So 1 you probably feel quite bad and 10 you feel excellent.
So the first number that you can see when you ask yourself this question.
Try to remember either the number or your emotional state at the moment.
John it is 6 for you.
Thanks for letting me know.
So you can just take a note of that for yourselves and try not to forget your answer.
We will come back to it a bit later.
For me I can say that it's 8 for me.
I feel pretty calm.
I am excited at the same time and happy.
Yeah,
Difficult to find just one emotion.
It's a mixture for me at the moment.
So our emotions,
How they are created,
They depend on our gut,
How our gut feels physically,
On our heart,
Physical heart again,
On our breath,
Again how our body breathes and another moment emotions depend on chemical state of our body.
So it means which processes and substances are in our body.
So the chemical state of our body.
That is why it is so difficult to say what actual emotions are and that is why emotions are so connected with our body.
So we cannot just separate them.
I hope that is clear for now.
So gut,
Heart,
Breath and chemical state of our mind.
That's quite a lot to consider at the same time to create an emotion.
That is why human beings are so complex of course and that is why there are so many emotions and gradations of them.
But basically if we speak about biological aspect we can divide emotions into comfortable and uncomfortable.
This is how it was from the beginning of times of life on earth.
So with evolution we still can divide emotions into comfortable and uncomfortable.
And of course I have to mention that even uncomfortable emotions,
The ones that we don't like,
That we try to escape,
That we hate to experience,
We need these emotions and we cannot get rid of them and we shouldn't definitely get rid of them.
So emotions as I usually say,
They are our friends.
They always tell us if there is something wrong going on,
Something that we don't like,
Something that threatens us either physically or mentally and we just have to understand our emotions.
Well,
Another moment that I would like to mention except for emotions is stress.
Stress is not considered an emotion but fits the context really well.
So what is stress?
How do you guys define stress for yourselves?
I will be very curious to hear what stress is for you,
Maybe how you experience stress or what you think of stress.
I'm pretty sure that most people would say that it's one of the most negative aspects of life probably or experiences.
Certainly I don't think that anyone likes to experience stress,
Me neither.
Well,
What I can say stress is it is how our body reacts to uncomfortable emotions.
So comfortable emotions,
These are some positive emotions we can say such as happiness,
Excitement,
Joy,
Pleasure,
So on,
Uncomfortable,
Probably negative emotions.
Though I don't like to use this adjective towards the emotions but it will be easier to understand what the context is.
So stress is how our bodies react to uncomfortable negative emotions.
And stress,
It is the fear of the mind.
So once again,
Stress lives in the body but it is the fear of the mind.
So the mind and body react almost at the same time to something threatening,
To some kind of fear.
But what is fear?
Fear is just lack of information for our mind.
Simply so.
And I've asked you guys what was your emotional state in the beginning.
Now I would like you to imagine yourself in the first grade.
So you're a little girl or boy who is just entering school at the first grade.
What emotions do you have now as a first grader?
How do you feel?
Or how do you feel according to the 1 to 2 scale?
I would also like to hear your answer here.
How does a first grader inside of you feel?
If you talk about my first grade,
I would definitely say it was something about 2.
I was quite nervous or really nervous and I guess stressed.
Everything changed for me in the second grade but the question was about the first one,
Right?
John,
For you it is 3 or 4.
Alright,
Yeah,
Also lower than the previous emotional state for me.
The same.
Thank you so much for the answer.
Right.
So this was,
The questions were a tool to understand how stressed your body is.
So for most people,
Hopefully it would be quite easy to evaluate their emotional state at the moment and as a first grader.
But if you cannot feel the change of your emotional state,
If you cannot see the difference or just perceive it or maybe these questions don't even make sense for you,
It is because your body is overloaded with stress.
So the stress blocks your sensitivity.
It can be physical or mental stress.
It means that you are so alert and ready to attack,
React or defend yourself that you just cannot pay attention or cannot even think about being a first grader or so on.
So it happened with some of you guys so probably now you can understand it a little bit better,
Hopefully.
And when to speak about emotions,
As I mentioned we all need them and they occur naturally with all the processes going on in our body.
And we can kind of learn how to control emotions even though I wouldn't say we can 100% control them but at least we can first recognize them.
We can say,
Alright,
I feel this or that.
Understand emotions,
Maybe why I feel this way or what made me feel it right now.
The next step would be to accept emotions.
That requires a big loads of work with yourself just to accept them.
That alright,
Yes,
That's true.
I feel really low at the moment.
I don't like it but this is how it is and it's okay.
And the next level will be able to shift the emotions.
This requires a lot of practice but it is definitely possible.
There are many tools for that and that is why we are here.
This is how Mind-Body Connection can help us.
So meditation,
Body awareness,
Mindfulness can definitely help a ton.
Well,
If to speak about stress.
With the stress we can also work.
We can regulate the levels of stress.
At some point if we are overloaded with work at our workplace we can just say,
No,
I will not take this project right now because this is already too much for me.
So we can regulate the levels of future stress knowing how it can influence us.
We can also regulate what's very important,
Our reaction to stress with some real time tools.
This is amazing because we all know it due to neuroscience nowadays and again if to mention them briefly,
We were talking about it in the episode about the body aspect of Mind-Body Connection.
It's breath that can help us immediately,
Almost immediately.
It will take about 30 to 40 seconds if we for example use the vagal breathing technique when our exhales are twice longer than inhales.
We can also gaze our vision.
So going from a tunnel concentrated focused vision to broader panoramic vision.
This is what usually happens when we are taking a walk especially in nature,
Especially without any headphones just being right here at the moment.
And connecting with other people,
With loved ones,
With special ones.
Just social meaningful connection can lower the level of stress and can regulate,
Help us regulate the reaction to immediate stress.
And of course another way to work with it is to raise our stress threshold.
So something that was really threatening for us in the past will not bother us so much already.
So we will just raise the stress threshold.
We will learn how to work with that.
And it is definitely connected to knowing yourself,
To have an established strong relationship with yourself.
So here any or probably all spiritual practices will help the ones that you prefer personally.
Anything that helps you to work with your inner self.
Being confident in self and having the feeling of trust to life or the universe or God or whatever.
So here all the spiritual practices I believe will work really really well.
And again this is why mind-body connection and what I mainly specialize in is so important and so effective.
I hope it is more clear for everyone here why we dedicate so much time to this topic,
Why I would love more people to be involved to just know that it is possible to work with yourself,
To make your quality of life better and to enjoy life more.
Here we can also mention a few words about parasympathetic nervous system is just another example of mutual influence of mind and body.
So what parasympathetic nervous system is it's just a network of nerves that relaxes your body after some periods of stress or danger no matter whether it's physical or mental.
Again psychological whatever.
It also helps to run life sustaining processes in our body so that's crucial crucial for us like digestion during the time when we feel safe and relaxed.
And again for example to make it very basic and very simple just to understand it for all of us for example with the mind we know some techniques we can implement that can relax our body,
Our gut,
Our parasympathetic nervous system and when it is on,
When the system is on and we feel relaxed our mind relaxes so it is kind of from the mind going down to the pelvic area where these neurons part of them are and when it's relaxed at the bottom of our torso it can go up so that is just beautiful to imagine how really we can have evidence of mind body connection.
For me it's just kind of magical I love talking about it,
I love to see how it works,
I love to notice how it helps and to see amazing results.
So if there are any questions any comments please guys let me know I would be glad to have a little chat with you.
The race probably that is everything that I wanted to say for today and I am very happy that in a few weeks or maybe couple of months I will be able to implement all of these psychosomatic knowledge from the course that I am taking that I mentioned in the beginning.
It's not an advertisement I just want to sincerely share it with you and all the instruments and tools that I would like more people to be aware of that this science exists that you guys can help yourselves or you can find someone to work with and if you feel that mind body connection it is something that you need right now that is of your interest or you would like to practice,
Experience do not hesitate to send me a private message or you can also find me on Instagram so I am always open to new connections and new opportunities and I really hope that all of our online live events here will be helpful and of use for all of you guys.
You can always find in my profile the recordings of the previous episodes if you would like to catch up with the previous information you can find some breathing exercises,
