Welcome to this meditation on surrendering the outcome.
Surrendering is not about giving up.
It's about recognizing that we've done our best and now it's time to let go of ruminating thoughts,
Be in this moment,
Release control and trust in the flow of life.
In this practice we'll begin by relaxing the body and focusing on the breath.
Then we'll explore the concept of surrendering and letting go of outcomes.
Let's begin.
Find a comfortable seated position either on a chair or cushion with your spine tall so you can get the most nourishing breath and your shoulders are relaxed.
Rest your hands gently on your thighs or in your lap,
Palms facing up or down,
Whatever feels most natural to you.
Palms up can be welcoming healing energy towards you.
Palms down can be more grounding.
Close your eyes or if that's uncomfortable for you rest your gaze on something that isn't moving maybe your knees or a book on a shelf.
Begin by taking a deep breath in through your nose,
Feeling your lungs expand fully and then exhale slowly through your mouth,
Letting go of any tension you may be holding on to.
Feel the weight of your body sinking into the support beneath you.
Allow yourself to fully relax and as we go through this body scan imagine drawing in a sense of calm and peace within each inhale and within each exhale imagine releasing any stress or discomfort from your body.
Take a few breaths just to start like this,
Allowing your breath to become slow,
Smooth,
Effortless.
Now bring your awareness to your feet.
Notice any sensations you feel in your toes,
The arches of your feet and your heels.
With each inhale imagine sending a wave of relaxation down through your feet,
Softening and releasing any tension you may be holding on to.
Continue to move your awareness slowly up through your body,
Releasing tension with each breath.
Relax your calves,
Your thighs,
Your hips.
Let go of any tightness in your abdomen,
Your chest,
Your shoulders.
Allow your arms to feel heavy and relaxed and let your hands rest softly on your lap or wherever feels comfortable.
Soften the muscles of your face.
Relax your scalp.
Let the jaw drop and let the tension in your eyes release and let them almost fall back as if into a well.
Now bring to mind something in your life that you've been striving for,
Something you've worked hard at but now feel it's time to release control over it.
It could be a goal you've been chasing,
A relationship you've been trying to fix or a situation you've been worrying about.
Visualize this thing in your mind's eye.
Notice how it feels in your body when you think about it.
Is there tension or tightness anywhere?
Take a moment to acknowledge these sensations without judgment.
As you continue to breathe deeply,
Repeat to yourself silently or out loud,
I surrender.
I release control to my higher power.
I will trust in the flow of life.
I will let life flow.
I surrender.
I release control to my higher power.
I will trust in the flow of life.
I will let life flow.
I surrender.
I release control to my higher power.
I will trust in the flow of life.
I will let life flow.
Maybe one of those phrases really stuck with you.
Maybe repeat them in your mind for just a few more breaths.
For me,
I will repeat,
I will let life flow.
Let these words we've just said together wash over you like a gentle reminder that you don't have to carry the weight of the world on your shoulders.
Let go of any attachment to the outcome and surrender to the present moment.
In this moment,
You are safe,
Grounded,
And filled with joy and peace.
Know that you are enough,
That all the striving to be better or different is unnecessary.
You have done all you can do.
Trust that whatever happens next is for your highest good,
Even if it doesn't look like it or is what you had imagined or planned.
Now slowly begin to bring your awareness back.
Wiggle your toes and fingers,
Gently bringing movement into your body.
Take a deep breath in,
Filling your lungs with fresh air,
And as you exhale,
Sigh out any remaining tension or worry.
When you feel ready,
Slowly open your eyes.
Take a moment to notice your surroundings,
The colors,
Shapes,
And textures in the space around you.
Allow yourself to be fully present in this moment,
Right here,
Right now,
Knowing again that you are safe,
That there is nothing to fear here,
And joy and peace are abundant and available now.
Before we end,
Let's take a moment to say Namaste together and maybe it helps to define the word.
It means the spirit in me honors the spirit in you,
And as we say it together on the exhale,
We're acknowledging the beautiful soul within our own selves and each other.
Take a deep breath in through your nose,
Filling your lungs with air,
And as you exhale,
Say with me,
Namaste.
Thank you for joining me in this meditation.
May you carry the peace of surrender with you throughout your day,
And trust in the wisdom of the universe and your higher power to guide you on your journey.
