Have you been asking yourself what meditation is? How do I do it, and am I doing it right? I'd like to start with the word meditation and ask you to consider what it means to you. Then compare that to what I see as meditation, which is simply a complete presence in whatever activity you're doing. I'm fond of recommending meditative practices to my clients that are very practical parts of their daily life. Like walking, washing the dishes, or drinking a cup of coffee.

Have you been asking yourself what meditation is exactly?

And maybe even,

How do I do it?

And am I doing it right?

This series is a few lessons,

Experiences,

Insights from me,

Bibi,

Knowing that at any point you can actually go to Google and see what comes up there on YouTube.

But this is my take on the answer to what is meditation and how do I do it?

First and foremost,

I'd like to just break apart the word meditation and ask you to consider what does it mean to you?

And then compare that to what I see as meditation,

Which is simply complete presence in whatever act you're doing.

I'm fond of recommending meditative practices to my clients that are very practical parts of their daily life,

Like walking,

Washing the dishes,

Drinking a cup of coffee,

Experiencing the transition of the sun setting or rising,

Or simply sitting in nature if possible for a few minutes.

And if,

As I said,

Those things,

There were obstacles or excuses or things that you felt are holding you back from doing any of these things,

Then right in this moment,

We can meditate together by simply pausing pausing and becoming aware of our breath,

Allowing the breath to come in and out through the nose,

Lips sealed,

Just drawing your intention,

Attention to those inhales and exhales.

Maybe even considering giving yourself compassion as you inhale,

Moving that air through your lungs and exhaling kindness,

Love,

Whatever feeling or emotion you're yearning for.

Maybe it's simply acceptance,

Recognizing that in this moment we're doing this together,

That I am your motivation and your support to draw simple attention to the breath coming in and out of your nose.

And with that,

You can tell yourself that you've meditated today and you can pause and rewind and do that as often as you need.

And the busier you are,

The more frazzled you feel,

The more you need this space for silence,

For your breath.

There's no way for you to breathe wrong.

Just seal your lips and let the air move in and out from your nostril.

If you'd like to deepen this experience today,

You can consider a couple of questions for your journal.

And that first one is the same one I asked you as a thought exercise when we began.

What is meditation?

What does it mean to me?

What do I want it to be?

What do I want from it?

It may be helpful to set a timer and simply free write what your answers are and then put your pencil or your pen down as soon as that timer ends so that you don't get stuck in thinking of the right thing to write or whether or not that's the right answer.

Because as we go through this series,

One of the things that I will emphasize is that whatever you pick as right is what's right for you.

It's such an honor to join you on this journey.

You can imagine that you're taking these steps in slight darkness,

Maybe even dusk,

With a fog in front of you.

You can only see just that next step in front of you.

No big decisions to make,

Nothing to get wrong,

Just stepping one foot in front of the other.

And I am your companion on this journey,

Holding up a lantern to just give you a little bit more light,

To shine a light on your own path by having an experience just like we just did.

To reach out for more support,

Motivation,

Or encouragement as you continue your journey,

Feel free to reach out directly to me at Vivian at VivianCarrasco.
