Transcript

Why people regain lost weight Research has found that only 2 to 5 percent of Americans who lose weight keep it off.

There are many reasons why fad dieting doesn't work.

One of the primary drawbacks to this type of dieting is that people who follow fad diets focus on pounds lost without taking the time to understand that they have the habits and attitudes they do.

If you have had a particular habit for 10 or 20 years,

You have some reasons for it.

And you develop that habit due to the circumstances that existed at the time.

It is important to investigate the reasons.

You may be bored,

Lonely,

Using food to cover up anger or depression or hiding your sexuality.

People go into weight loss programs without taking into consideration that they will need to determine what the relationship with food is and how to change it.

If they don't,

The weight will either not come off or it will come back.

You must eliminate the original reasons for your inappropriate eating.

Also,

Many dieters try to lose weight too quickly.

Changing a lifelong behavior pattern requires progress that is slow and deliberate.

Many people are not prepared for how different they feel when they actually lose weight.

They are used to the self they have come to know and when that changes at a deep level,

People get afraid and begin to feel out of control.

And being out of control is always frightening,

Particularly to adults who feel they should never be afraid.

It helps to go slowly.

Also,

Your mind adjusts to weight loss much more slowly than your body does.

You need time to practice visualizing yourself thin.

To achieve success,

You must get your mind as well as your body ready for the change.
