Burnout,
A state of physical and emotional exhaustion.
It can occur when you experience long-term or short-term stress in your job or in life.
Let me read that once more.
Burnout,
A state of physical and emotional exhaustion.
It can occur when you experience long-term or short-term stress in your job or in life.
That word burnout tends to be associated with the work environment,
70 hours a week,
Executives.
But with my work over the last few years with different people,
I've come to realise that we all get burnt out with things.
We all become overwhelmed.
We all start to feel trapped at times with a particular aspect of our life or a few things that start to stick together and become a mass,
Almost insurmountable or so it seems.
So last week we looked at the importance of building balance into your life.
I used a quote I think 72 times in 21 minutes.
Balance is the key to all things in life.
Balance is the key to all things in life.
And we reframed the word balance with how do you take care of yourself.
So on the basis that we've got things to do,
We've got people to meet,
We've got connections and commitments,
Then at times it is going to get too much for us.
We can only take so much before it starts to feel too much.
And balance is the antidote to that.
Finding ways to take care of yourself so you can step back,
So you can just pause and find space.
And we had some wonderful examples from sitting under a tree to listening to music to rolling the yoga mat out,
Whatever it is,
But we really got a feel last week for the importance of just being able to offset the stuff by choosing things that take care of us.
Just five minutes a day has an amazing impact.
So this week I'd like to build on that,
Folks.
And if we recognize that actually there's things in life that bring us balance,
There's things in life that lift us up,
But there's also things in life,
Whether we've signed up for them or whether they've come drifting across and sort of absorbed us,
That drag us down as well.
So I wanted to introduce you to a very simple exercise that I use on the six-week course and I've used on talks here,
But it starts to really layer the theme from last week around balance.
So if you haven't got a pen and paper or something to write on,
Can I just suggest that you take a moment now just to get something as it will be far more sort of beneficial to you just to make a few notes.
So when you've got your pen and paper,
Folks,
What I'd like you to do is to draw a line across the middle of the page.
And this doesn't matter.
It can be portrait or landscape,
But we're drawing a line from left and right.
So in essence,
We're left with two halves on the page and a line that dissects down the middle.
On the phone would be great as well.
So let's just park that for a moment,
Folks.
We're left with a piece of paper with a strange line across the middle of it.
What's this got to do with balance?
Well,
To really build this into this week's talk,
I'd like to sort of lean on the principle that everything is energy.
Everything is energy.
What the wise,
The gurus,
The sages have told us for thousands of years,
Quantum physics now confirms that we're all just masses of energy vibrating at a different rate.
What's that got to do with with balance and not getting too overwhelmed?
Well,
A great author and a real sort of mentor of mine is a gentleman called David R.
Hawkins.
David R.
Hawkins.
I really encourage you to look at his work,
Even if it's just to find him on YouTube.
He's really sort of encapsulating David R.
Hawkins.
His two most prominent books are Power Versus Force and a wonderful book called Letting Go,
In which he invites the reader to travel light,
To put stuff down.
So Hawkins was an eminent psychologist for most of his life.
But for the last 20,
25 years,
And I think he lived until he was well into his 90s and worked up until the end,
He started to realize the direct correlation between how we are,
How the thousands of people that he worked with and on were feeling at that point in their lives and how they vibrated energetically.
So not too much on the science at the moment,
Folks,
But I'm going to show you a piece of paper.
And don't worry too much about this,
Because I'm going to encourage you to take a look at it in your own time.
It's called The Map of Consciousness by David R.
Hawkins,
The Map of Consciousness.
Don't worry if you can't see it,
Let me walk you through it.
So what Hawkins found was that if somebody came to see him and they weren't having a great time,
It might have been relationships,
It might be finance,
It might be health,
That when he measured their energetic vibration,
And it can be measured now,
We have a unit scale here,
A unit of measurement,
He found that the worse they were feeling,
The lower their vibrational energy.
So can you see here,
If we're around things like guilt,
Grief,
Fear,
Then we vibrate much slower.
We've literally got no energy.
It's a numbers game,
Folks.
It's a numbers game.
And we feel this,
Don't we,
You and I?
When we're up against it a bit,
When life's knocking us about a little bit,
We feel depressed.
We literally haven't got the energy to think our way out of it,
Never mind move or act our way out of it,
But it's because we literally have no energy.
If you look at the first green line here,
Hawkins called that neutrality.
And on the scale,
It's around about 250.
Don't worry about the measurement of scale.
And if you and I are having an okay day,
Nothing's really testing us too much,
But we're not winning too many awards either,
Then we bounce along on this line,
250.
But look what happens,
Folks,
If we're having a better time of it.
Look what happens to our energy if we're around peace,
Love,
Reasoning,
Serenity,
Acceptance.
We're energized.
We literally fill with energy.
We vibrate more.
In fact,
Think about a time in your life where everything was going great.
It's almost like you had so much energy,
You felt you wanted to give it to others.
Your cup overfloweth,
As a famous book once said.
So just get your head around this energetic template of Hawkins.
And on your page where you've just drawn the line,
Have a look at that line called neutrality.
So can you just give me a thumbs up that this is connected with you?
This,
Jennifer,
Is called The Map of Consciousness by David R.
Hawkins.
Or Claudia,
On your desk,
A great reminder,
An aid memoir.
So if this is connecting,
Just give me a thumbs up because we're going to use it to move on to the next part of the talk.
Fantastic.
Thank you,
Everyone.
Lots of thumbs ups.
OK,
So we're back to our chart now.
So here's 250 on the scale.
Now here's what I'd like you to know.
Everything carries a vibrational energy.
Every person,
Everything,
Every building,
Every word,
Every thought,
Every act,
Every interaction,
Every type of food,
Every type of drink,
The programs you watch,
The things you scroll,
Everything has a vibrational energy.
And if we spend long enough around it,
And we don't need too long,
We start to vibrate.
It's exactly the same vibrational energy.
We align to it.
Remember it's a numbers game.
So what I'd like you to do now is think of things,
And you can share them in the chat here.
It would be wonderful to see some examples.
I said last week,
One word from you could really plant seeds for somebody else,
Be just what they want to hear,
Or just to confirm to others,
You're not alone.
We're going through this thing called life,
You and I.
So if you can think of things that you just know,
You've known for a long time,
Or if you pause for a moment now and just reflect,
Lower your vibrational energy.
Take you down that chart.
It could be a work colleague.
It could be a partner.
It could be a habit that you have.
It could be a building that you frequent.
It could be anything.
Everything carries a vibrational energy.
And I would like you to start,
To just start now,
You can finish this in your own time,
But start to populate the bottom of the page below the line.
Because the first real step towards change is awareness.
Otherwise we're just blinkered,
We're masked.
So C said rejection,
Not eating well,
Skipping exercise.
C I'll get all of that,
And that would certainly go below the line for me,
A lower vibration.
So just give me some more examples,
It'd be lovely to hear what it is that you're placing below the line on your page.
Comparison Angie,
You see there's no right or wrong here,
You see how sort of different these can be.
Not being in my own head too much,
Rachel.
My boy is fighting,
Says Susan.
Going through a divorce after 30 years of marriage,
It's encompassing so much of my energy.
I'm obliged to tell you that this too shall pass,
Debbie,
But you are where you are.
Physical pain,
Not feeling anything,
Says Al.
Defending myself,
Says Warren.
Ruby said missing so much my ex-partner.
Okay,
So we get the picture here,
Folks.
But until we start to place it below the line on that page,
Then it's all masked together.
The reason we feel stuck is because there are so many things below that line that it's like treading through treacle.
In the book called The Dark Side of the Light Chasers,
The author Debbie Ford said,
What we push down sticks around.
In fact,
What we push down not only sticks around,
It sticks together and we start to feel very difficult or we can't find a way out.
So you're going to be left with half of the page below the line and you've really started to identify things.
Some might seem obvious,
Some might seem not so obvious and they've just come to you.
Why do we get overwhelmed?
Why do we get burnt out?
Because we can't see a way out from this.
It's like we've signed up and that line across the page there is literally keeping us there.
Again,
Can you just give me a thumbs up or something if this is making sense to you.
The overwhelm and the burnout comes because we haven't named or really identified what it is that's keeping us trapped,
That's slowing us down,
That's making us exhausted.
Wonderful.
So folks,
The good news is we have half a page that's free and I think you know where I'm going with this.
Everything in life that works has balance.
Overwhelm and burnout is the absence of balance in all or a part of your life.
So what takes care of you?
What lifts you up?
What feeds your soul?
What energizes you?
And let's start to populate the page above.
Now what you may find is it was easier to fill the page below than it was the page above.
But there lies the exercise,
There lies the action,
Enough now,
We're not stuck here.
If we fall over,
You and I stay lying down until we get back up.
Sometimes it's with somebody else's hand,
But more often than not,
It's on our own.
What lifts you up?
What gets you back on your feet?
So Gloria said time in nature,
Angie said music,
Get them on the page above the line.
Peace,
Says Debbie,
The beach,
Dog,
Sunshine,
Music,
Nature,
Get them above the line,
Get them on the page.
Rediscovering your creativity,
Says Maisie,
Wonderful.
Helen says walking,
Especially near water,
Me too.
Get it on the page,
Name it,
Get it out,
Don't push it down.
Susan says nature,
Sunshine,
Music,
Dancing,
Yoga,
The beach again,
Nature.
Nature plays such a massive part in lifting us up,
Folks.
We don't get too many things below the line from nature,
There's a clue there.
So you can see now that you've started to populate this template.
It's almost like an audit.
Last week was about the importance of balance.
This week is about where is my imbalance and what can I do to rebalance,
To bring that back into my life.
So it's easy for me to say name them,
But let's just,
Before we move on to the next part of this,
Let me give you a real action.
Now you can do many of these live talks,
You can read the books,
You can go on the workshops,
But it's only when this stuff comes off the page that we start to really create lasting and positive change,
Folks.
So I'd like you to pick one thing now that you've placed below the line,
Just one thing,
Or that you've named in the chat section there.
And I would like you to put numbers one and two against that thing.
So you're left with something,
It might be alcohol,
It might be finances,
Whatever it is.
And I'm going to ask you to pick two simple steps that you know,
If you find the courage and the commitment to carry out these two steps,
Moves you up the page and stops you feeling trapped around something that overwhelms you at the moment.
So let me explain again.
Let me say I've got alcohol here,
Alcohol for me,
I drank every day for 30 years of my life.
I stopped drinking almost six years ago.
But for most of my life,
Alcohol would have been here.
So number one,
And number two for me against alcohol,
Number one would have been after my Thursday night game of football or soccer,
I make excuses and don't go to the pub.
It's a very simple but profound step that moves me away from a habit I've got around alcohol.
Number two might be when I'm at the supermarket,
I buy lager,
But not lager and wine.
I reduce the consumption subtly,
But again,
Profoundly,
Two steps.
So the line,
Claudia,
It denotes above the line is things that lift you up,
Raise your energy below the line of things that make you feel trapped,
Overwhelmed,
Burnt out.
So we start to pick one or two things and we work on them in the next 24,
48 hours.
The very nature of doing that raises your vibration.
Because Hawkins said,
The quickest way to the top of the page is truth.
Be true to yourself,
Be true to others,
And you start to raise your vibration and energy.
Now above the line,
You may have written something down that makes you feel really good,
But maybe you haven't been around it for a while.
Maybe the yoga mat has gathered dust.
Maybe you've got a book that you've been really wanting to read that you haven't opened.
So here,
Above the line,
Write one and two against something that raises and do it over the next couple of days to really bed it in,
To move closer to it,
To raise your vibrational energy.
Yes,
C.
So let me,
C's asking a question here.
I just want to make sure everybody's with this.
So C,
If you've put rejection below the line,
Then maybe the first thing that moves you away from rejection would be reminding yourself of those who haven't rejected you.
So maybe one name has rejected you,
But write 10 people down who haven't.
Raise your vibration around rejection.
That would be an example of that.
So folks,
I just want to name something else around this.
And the final part of this talk,
When you've started to denote what's above and below the line is that the universe sings your song.
Vibration likes the same vibration.
So if you're hanging around below the line and you have been for too long,
Then the universe brings people and more of the same into your life.
This isn't a dark art.
It's a science.
The universe brings people and things that sing the same song because it thinks that you're okay with it.
But here's the great thing.
If you move further up the page,
Above the line,
Around things such as nature,
Such as fitness,
Such as reducing alcohol consumption,
A very interesting thing happens.
The universe says,
Ian,
Whoever,
No longer wants to hang around at the bottom of the page.
So we're going to send things to really confirm his commitment to support him as he starts to move on.
Chance meetings,
Phone calls.
It's amazing how it plays out,
Folks.
So this is the second step around balance rather than just understand that balance is such an important antidote for being overwhelmed and for being burnt out.
We now become clear about the things specifically which are burning us out,
Which we're feeling trapped with and we name them.
We put them below the line on a page.
We then recognize the importance of balance.
We remember Hawking's chart and we name things above the line and we commit to doing a couple of things below the line to move away from it and a couple of things that move us above the line towards something that we've named.
Does that make sense?
I know there were a few questions and I'm conscious that I'm cramming a lot in,
But I would encourage you to look at the map of consciousness by Dawkins.
I have a couple of talks on here around the subject on Insight Timer and it is so important to become clear on what's dragging you down and what will lift you up.
Name it,
Move away from it,
Move towards it.
Balance is the key to everything in life.
So here's your takeaway.
The universe sings your song.
Trapped,
Overwhelmed,
Burnt out is the absence of balance.
Find the strength to write down below the line on a piece of paper what it is that's holding you there.
Take two steps away from it in the next 24 to 48 hours.
You would be amazed the power that momentum has.
Otherwise we just sit at the bottom of the page and you're better than that.
Enough now.
