This morning intention-setting meditation can be used to prepare you for the day ahead. We start by paying attention to our breathing to settle the mind. We then move to giving gratitude and setting intentions for the day ahead. This meditation helps us to connect with our inner selves and values so that we may carry this clarity of purpose into the rest of the day. This meditation is suitable for all practitioners.

Good morning and welcome to this morning intention setting meditation.

Finding a comfortable seat and perhaps closing over the eyes if that feels comfortable.

And starting off this morning,

We're doing some gentle stretches.

Perhaps starting with some shoulder rolls.

Just moving slowly,

Gently,

Deeply here.

And changing direction if you haven't already.

Letting go of the shoulder rolls and perhaps coming to gently stretch the neck in whatever way feels comfortable.

And then coming to center.

And finally raising the arms up all the way until they reach for the ceiling.

Perhaps breathing here and on the exhale release the arms back down.

Inhaling and as you exhale reaching the arms around and all the way up.

Deep inhale at the top.

And exhaling,

Bringing the arms down.

Bringing the palms to resting in the thighs.

Now letting the body really settle in to the chair or the floor beneath you.

Feeling the contact points between you and the chair or the ground.

Feet resting on the floor.

Backs of the thighs resting in the chair.

The back supported.

And the hands resting on the thighs.

Telling yourself to come home to the breath this morning.

So settling into the breath.

Bringing yourself to flow with the breath here.

Breathing in.

And breathing out.

Opening up to this wonderful ability to breathe.

And as you sit here in the stillness of the breath.

Getting to mind something for which you are deeply grateful.

This might be a person in practice.

Memory holding whatever it is in your mind's eye.

Picturing it vividly.

And feeling a deep sense of thanks.

Holding on to it for one moment longer.

And as you breathe out letting it go.

Now calling to mind something else for which you are grateful.

This time perhaps a specific moment in the past few days that brought you great joy.

Picturing that moment in your mind's eye.

Letting it fill you with joy and warmth once more.

And when you're ready,

Gently letting it go.

Turning to the breath once more.

Just allowing the breath to hold you here.

Knowing that if at any point we need something to hold on to,

We can say,

Breathing in on the inhale and breathing out on the exhale.

And as you sit here,

Just going to ask a few questions as part of setting an intention around the way of being today.

Who do you wish to be today?

What version of you do you wish to embody?

What values do you want to uphold today?

And what obstacles might get in the way of you being this version of yourself upholding these values?

And how much you meet those obstacles?

What small act of kindness might you do today?

And finally,

What small act of kindness might you offer yourself?

Taking a deep breath in here and a deep breath out.

Holding these intentions in the mind's eye.

And feeling as if they could drop into the body,

Into the heart.

Holding them here.

Breathing into them.

And then gently starting to wriggle the toes,

The fingers,

Bringing the hands to the heart center.

Taking yourself and taking this time to establish your intentions for the day.

Gently bowing the head.

Namaste.
