There are several reasons why the breath is a good point of focus. Our breath accompanies us through our life, it has a subtle quality and is a perfect symbol of the unseen world, and it unified our body and mind. The breath can represent the unity between the 'outer' and the 'inner'. This simple breath meditation helps to calm your mind and body. It's a useful tool to develop your focus. Find a comfortable quiet place to enjoy this meditation.

Sit or lie down,

Breathe as normal.

And now let's watch what is happening with your breath.

Are you breathing from the top of your chest or from deep down in your abdomen?

And now focus on your diaphragm and try and draw the breath down to the base of your lungs.

And the lungs can expand far more from the base of your lungs.

Drawing the breath down to the base of your lungs.

Now switch your attention to the texture of your breathing.

Is it gentle and calm or snatched and jerky?

Is it silent or noisy?

Just observe your breathing.

Would you describe your breath as soft or harsh,

Regular or irregular?

You can use this short meditation to focus on your breathing,

To observe and discover.

And you can use this meditation to review your breathing,

To soften your breath.

Observing your breath can bring consistency to your meditation practice.
