Good morning and welcome to the Happiness Habit podcast.

I'm Kara Payton,

Your host,

And this is the podcast for becoming the happiest person you know.

Today I'm going to walk you through an intervention question series that will bring about hopefully some relief to a thought that is causing you suffering.

We have them all the time.

Sometimes we are able to vanquish them with another thought.

We are able to distract ourselves and move on.

And sometimes we just have a thought that is sticky and goes in regardless of whether we want to feel it.

It just it sticks with us and the reason is because some of these thoughts that we're thinking feel true.

They feel like we are not buying and selling ourselves a lie.

It feels true.

We have evidence of it but the neat thing is where everything could be proven true it can also be proven untrue.

And that's what I want to walk you through today because where you seek you will find.

Whatever it is that you want to see or want to think you will find a way to prove it to yourself.

Your mind is this magnificent machine and it is practiced in whatever has whatever your home emotional home thought life home your identity wherever that has all been laid into absolute concrete form and routine and ritual by the thoughts that you're thinking your mind has just developed this groove this pattern this way it is so faithful to that process and this is the pathway that I've created for this area of life in this area of life in this you know habit of belief this family of emotions I have been used to this I have been accustomed to this and so of course it is change this means change requires a little bit of will at first but after you get there it slowly becomes a little easier and it does happen in magic moments like this where you have a thought that is just absolutely berating you and so let's loosen one thought let's just wiggle it out of place wiggle it enough to jar it right out of your heart right out of your mind and right out of your experience because those things are hard when you cannot get rid of one and it is causing you pain and suffering I know you just want it to go away and you do have that power so let's begin think your thoughts say it out loud what is the thought that you're having what is the emotion that you're having what are you saying I am sad mad angry disappointed overwhelmed frustrated stressed whatever it is I am that because and then say whatever is happening whoever is doing something to you whatever just occurred and say the whole sentence out loud now ask yourself is this true is this true now your answer could be yes or no yes it could be true and no it's not true if you know that it's not true if it's if it's an assumed reality or an assumption or a hallucination just based on the way your emotions have charged it think about that for a minute back up from it is it really true now ask yourself can you absolutely know it to be true is there factual cement evidence this is true can you prove it now this is where a lot of our assumptions and thoughts kind of unfurl because it's what we have chosen to believe and what we have chosen to believe isn't always true so that may have wiggled it a little bit now ask yourself how do I react when I think this is true how am I reacting to this because I have thought it this may be the way you feel in your body this may be the way you show up for others this may be what you say and do because of it how do you react who do you become do you like it does it hurt does it hurt others now ask yourself who would I be without that thought what would you be what would you be able to do say think believe move how would you be able to show up if this thought was not occurring to you would you be lighter would you be freer would you feel capable could you breathe easier who would you become without this whole thing now I would challenge you that if your answers to the two questions were no they are not true and can you absolutely know them to be true no if those answers were no you have no problem here let it go focus on question four who would you become without it do this as many times as you need to in a day notice the way you feel as we move toward the way we want to feel by simply calling into question things that occur to us that we do not have to adopt not every thought you think has to be taken and invested in or believed or lived out and we do this as a process because our minds are so beautiful and wonderful and this process happens to us really the intent of the function is to keep us safe alive happy but a lot of the times in order to protect us or keep us safe things occur to us that are not necessarily for our benefit they do not serve us and that is where we can step in and call these thoughts into question that are causing us needless pain and suffering and continue to move and follow the path of what feels the best to us and sometimes this requires a little intervention I hope this was helpful have a good day
