This is a meditation to help you befriend your desires.
We all have longings.
It's part of being human.
But when we become fixated on achieving those desires,
It can lead to ruminating thoughts,
Stress,
And negative feelings about ourselves.
When we notice and allow our desires to be present,
Without judgment or expectations,
We can cultivate a sense of inner calm and ease.
From that place,
We can better understand our deeper needs,
Explore how to meet them,
And practice self-compassion.
I hope this meditation is supportive to you on your path.
I invite you to find a position that allows you to be comfortable,
But also feel a sense of strength.
Finding a position that allows your body to rest,
To relax into the support underneath you,
And to allow you to be awake,
Alert,
In your strength,
In your power,
Allowing your body to shift and find this balance.
And from this place,
Can you invite your body to soften a little bit more?
If it feels good,
You could close your eyes or lower your gaze,
Bringing your attention more inwards.
And I invite you to take a few slow,
Steady,
Deeper breaths here,
Allowing yourself to arrive in this moment,
Allowing your body to soften,
To breathe,
To just be here in this moment,
Just as it is.
And I invite you to bring to mind something that you long for,
Something that you desire and want for your life.
And for now,
Just bring one thing to mind,
Maybe not the biggest thing that you want.
It can be small,
But still significant.
And I invite you to bring a sense of curiosity and kindness when you bring this to mind.
Just stay with this longing for a moment.
Maybe you can say it in your head or out loud what it is that you long for and allow it to be here.
And notice what comes up for you when you bring this to mind.
Maybe there are some thoughts or emotions.
Try to observe them without judgment.
Just observing them just as they are.
And when you bring this longing or desire to mind,
How does it feel in your body?
Is there a place or a few places in your body where you feel it the most?
And gently scan your body to see where you feel this longing.
And keep your attention there on the body,
On the sensations.
Maybe there's a speed.
Maybe there is a temperature.
Perhaps there's a quality of softness or hardness.
Maybe it feels pleasant or unpleasant or even just neutral.
Simply observing it just as it is.
There's nothing wrong with it.
You don't need to change it.
It's not good or bad.
It's just your body relating to your desire and an invitation for you to be with yourself,
To be with your body through this experience.
And stay with this observation for a few moments,
Perhaps breathing with it,
Allowing it to be here,
Remembering that everyone has desires.
You are not alone.
And from this place,
Considering the question of what might be underneath this longing.
What's the deeper desire under this longing?
What need or needs might you have around this desire?
Perhaps this desire is allowing you to understand your need for connection or joy.
Maybe it has to do with your autonomy or agency.
Perhaps it has to do with your inner peace,
A need for ease or a need for physical well-being.
Or perhaps your desire is connected to a need around fulfillment or purpose.
Maybe you don't yet know what this longing is connected to in terms of a need,
And that's okay.
Simply noticing this experience,
And if a need or a few needs popped up into your mind,
Sit with them.
Befriend them as well,
Honoring that your needs are human needs,
Collective needs.
You're not alone.
Just like you,
Everyone has needs.
So there's nothing wrong with you for having these needs.
It's part of being human.
And so there's an invitation for you to allow this need to be here.
You don't have to understand it on an intellectual or philosophical level.
You don't have to try to figure out how to meet it right now.
You don't need to fix it or change it or ignore it or push it away.
Can you simply make space for allowing this need to be here in your experience,
To be with this need,
With openness,
With compassion,
With curiosity?
When you bring this need to mind,
How does it feel in your body?
Is there a place where you feel it the most?
And how can you befriend both your longing and your needs right now?
Maybe it's through some words that you say to yourself,
Some compassionate,
Kind,
Loving words,
A supportive phrase.
Sometimes something as simple as,
I see you or I love you or it's okay,
Can feel comforting.
Or maybe there's another phrase that helps you make space for this longing and this need to be here.
Perhaps what would feel supportive is some physical touch,
Hands on your heart or your belly or your forehead or your cheek or a combination of some of those.
Wrapping your arms around yourself,
Embracing yourself in a hug.
Or perhaps you imagine receiving this physical touch or these comforting words from another being,
Whether that's the divine or God or spirit or another energy,
Maybe it's radiating light.
Or perhaps it's a loved one extending it to you,
A pet.
You can both support yourself and allow yourself to be supported by others.
And inviting yourself to relax into this support,
This support that reminds you it's okay to have desires and needs.
Breathing with this acceptance,
With this support,
Taking a few moments to allow your needs and your desires to be held and cared for just as they are with a loving presence.
Breathing with this experience,
Staying here as long as you'd like and coming out of the meditation whenever you may feel ready.
Sending you care and blessings.
