This short practice can be used as a way of transitioning into a longer meditation practice or simply as a way to take a breather during the day to create a moment of rest.
One part of meditation practice in general is certainly creating the conditions that allow our mind to settle to creating a sense of patience with life as it happens with the ability to sit with emotions and experiences or to immerse ourselves in a joyful experience,
But perhaps even larger than that the premise is that when we stay settled more often we're able to remain in touch with our best intentions with our ability to handle whatever is going on with skill.
So this short practice uses phrases as a reminder as a way of helping ourselves let go a little bit perhaps accept a little bit what's going on even when it's difficult.
So as you begin this practice find yourself a comfortable posture you can remain in for a few minutes whether you're seated or lying down or standing.
If you'd like take a few deeper breaths as a way of connecting with that physical movement your body makes with each breath and whatever state your mind is in right now noticing that and without wrestling with it without trying to force anything to happen returning to that physical motion your body makes with each breath breathing in and breathing out and with a sense of patience if your mind remains busy that's okay that is all part of your experience right now.
The most important moment is when you return once again.
For this practice we are going to add phrases that in an unforced way are a reminder of your intention.
Letting go for a moment of any need to fix or change or do things.
Some other time of the day that might be exactly what needs to happen but for now allowing for a sense of rest of letting things be.
So those phrases are nothing to fix right now,
Nowhere to go right now,
No one to be right now.
Timing the phrases at a comfortable pace for yourself with each breath,
Letting go of striving,
Wrestling with life and for the remainder of the practice with each breath.
Nothing to fix right now,
Nowhere to go right now,
No one to be right now.
Allowing yourself a place to relax,
To accept and if your mind stays busy with stories or rumination or just the general chaos of things,
Caring for yourself like you would a child.
You can't force that away but you can gently remind yourself to come back.
Nothing to fix right now,
Nowhere to go right now,
No one to be right now.
Reminding yourself that in this particular moment there may be nothing to do,
Nothing to fix.
Developing a sense of patience with how things are,
Perhaps giving intention to immersing yourself in moments of joy as much as accepting when things feel less pleasant or more difficult.
Staying settled so we can act with skill and let things unfold when it's time and act when it's time.
And creating these moments of rest.
So as you transition into the next part of your day,
Whether that's a longer sitting practice or simply getting back to the experience of everyday life,
Setting the intention to bring your best intentions to whatever you encounter.
