Continuous access to an onslaught of information from a world that is at times stressful, and even terrifying, can be a strain on the mind and lead to unskillful reactions. How do we cultivate the mind in light of this reality? This meditation encourages the practitioner to come back within as a means of preparing the mind to look outside, to cultivate a peace within to share with the world. It seems like that now more than any time that we know about,

Maybe,

We can keep ourselves with a steady supply of information from the outside world,

From the most remote places to any place,

Really.

I think there is a physiological necessity to put brakes in that feed.

It's like any wire engine,

Any physical thing you think of,

Will not withstand,

You know,

This constant onslaught without maintenance,

Rest,

Care.

It's one of the things we're doing here.

Maybe we've tried it before.

Maybe we've tried blocking out the world,

Various things,

Other distractions,

Sleep,

Drugs,

Work,

But it's always there on the other side.

So that's a reassurance that if you give yourself to a practice of goodness,

Of nourishment,

Where we don't always have what's going on everywhere in the world in our mind,

If you take a break from that,

It will be there on the other side if you go looking for it,

If you still think it wise to look into whatever issue it may be.

Remember,

There are infinite issues in the world that we have room for a handful,

Each maybe.

Are you breathing?

Do you have a body?

Do you have shelter and food,

Family?

Be full of these things.

We don't know.

We don't know when it ends.

So be full.

It's happening in this breath.

What a privilege to take an unimpeded breath at your leisure.

Feel the refreshment,

Nourishment.

Because we know the outside world will be waiting for us.

For now,

We direct the mind back here.

Each breath begin inhabiting the whole body.

So inhabiting is,

Do this through the sensation,

Feeling into our body,

Through the awareness in general,

And the breath.

We can be guided by the breath through the way we perceive its sensations.

Sort of generalize that awareness of the flow,

The rising and falling breath,

To the general flow of the body as a whole.

This may be the only place we have some control.

Now if that,

That's at least a good enough reason to come back here and see if we,

If we do.

Can we keep our thoughts in goodwill for a few minutes and from some place of stability we do look out at times,

Ask some questions.

Is there any place out there I wish the suffering would continue?

The answer is yes.

It's time to come back.

This breath.

There are,

You know,

Times when there's a pretty steady state of peace and calm.

I admit I do not know what Nirvana is like.

But there are times where there's some taste of the steadiness and calm.

But in the meantime there is a lot of moving in and out,

Exploring the range.

And at the beginning when we explore the range of our breath,

The range of the sensations,

It's all analogies to where we explore the range of our goodwill.

We explore our views of the world within,

Without,

The family,

The country.

It always comes back to this person.

Make this person wise so that when he or she goes out into the world,

You don't add to the hostility.

Find the peace in here.

So there's peace to share.

It's always found in a moment.

This moment of this breath.

This one.
