This 12-minute humming practice invites you into a deeper experience of vibration and inner calm. Supported by the gentle resonance of the monochord, your humming becomes more than sound — it becomes regulation. Soft vibration stimulates the vagus nerve, supports nitric oxide release, and helps the body shift out of stress mode into safety and presence. Simply breathe in… and hum on the exhale. Let the sound be soft. Let it be steady. Let it carry you. This practice is a beautiful companion to my upcoming Humming course and live sessions, and can also stand on its own whenever you need grounding and a nervous system reset.

Make yourself comfortable sitting or lying down and if you like place one hand gently on your chest now.

Let your eyes close,

Feel the support beneath you and take one easy inhale through the nose and sigh it out.

Beautiful.

Now let the breath move naturally.

Notice the contact of your hand on your chest and listen to the sounds and your next exhale let a soft hum arise.

Quieter than you'd think.

Feel a vibration under your hand.

Inhale naturally and hum again.

No force,

Just sound.

Again.

Notice how the body responds.

There is no need to push the sound.

Let it be easy,

Soft,

Almost like the quiet hmm you make when you taste something delicious or notice a beautiful scent.

Natural.

Unforced.

Now we will continue for a few breaths.

Each exhale becomes sound.

Each inhale arrives on its own.

Let's begin.

If the sound strains,

Soften.

If the mind wanders,

Return to vibration.

Let the chest resonate.

Let the jaw soften.

Let the tongue rest.

Allow the sound to become slightly fuller,

Not louder.

Deep.

Imagine the vibration spreading like a warm ripple through the chest,

Through the throat,

Into the face.

The softer the tone.

Let the tongue rest.

Another hum.

Notice the difference.

Less effort.

More resonance.

I'll hum with you.

Let it regulate you.

Let the next hum fade naturally and allow silence.

The breath.

The subtle steadiness inside.

That quiet resonance.

That is the gate to inner calm.

Before you open your eyes,

Remember when effort doesn't work,

Soften and hum.

Take two natural breaths.

Feel the support beneath you.

And when you're ready,

Gently open your eyes.

I think this stimulates the brain into releasing euphoric hormones. In particular, when you loosen your tongue. That experience was a revelation. Why didn’t I learn this in kindergarten?
