Namaste sacred soul.
I want you to get ready for this meditation by finding a place to sit.
Could be a yoga mat or a chair or a meditation cushion.
Keeping your eyes open,
Observe your surroundings.
Become aware of the space,
The objects,
The aromas and the sounds.
With a gentle smile on your lips,
Close your eyes.
The awareness now moves to the breath.
The ebb and flow of the breath in your body.
Get yourself 20% more comfortable than you already are.
Lift your chest up slightly so your spine is in the correct position.
Allow your shoulders to relax.
The sacred text,
The Bhagavad Gita,
Has a verse which says that the mind could be your best friend or your biggest enemy.
Our mind is constantly chatting with us.
Let's become aware of this chatter.
I'm going to leave you in silence for the next three minutes.
What you need to do is to be the observer.
Observe the mental chatter.
Label it as past,
Future and imagination.
If your mind brings up something from your to-do list,
Label it as a future and let it go.
If your mind brings up a memory of the past,
Label it as a past and let it go.
If your mind projects a scenario,
Label it as imagination and let it go.
A quick footnote.
Every time you label a thought and then you come back to your breathing,
It's a flex for your spiritual muscle.
Your midbrain is firing and that will eventually give you a host of benefits.
So here you go.
Now,
Let's gently bring our awareness back to our breathing.
If you wish to,
Feel free to stretch and get back to a relaxed state.
As you might have noticed,
In the past three minutes of silence,
You label the past and the future.
Often,
Our entire lives are spent navigating a heavy past and an oh that scary unknown future.
The most important yet most neglected now moment is lost in the struggle of life.
I invite you to a few minutes of experiencing the now moment.
If you happen to open your eyes,
Please close them gently.
The Yoga Sutras of Patanjali was a sacred mystical text written thousands of years ago and forms the basis of modern day yoga.
The first sentence of the text is,
अथ योगानशासनम् which means now the discipline of yoga.
Sage Patanjali here mentions the power of now.
Any change happens in the now.
The now moment is the only reality of life.
The ancient texts of India,
The Upanishads,
Call for a change in the present moment.
The ancient texts of India,
The Upanishads,
Call the now as Ujjvalam Muhurtham,
Which means the only radiant,
Sacred,
Auspicious time.
The now is all we have.
Let's focus on the inhale,
Grazing past our nostrils and landing in our chest and belly.
Also become aware of the exhale as it leaves you empty.
Awareness to the inhale and the exhale.
As thoughts come,
Gently disengage with them and get back to focusing on your breath.
You cannot breathe a past breath.
You cannot breathe a future breath.
Breathing happens in the now.
And focusing on the breath is focusing on the now.
As you breathe,
Just for the now moment,
Could you choose the emotion of kindness?
Kindness for yourself,
Kindness towards everything else.
As you breathe,
Just for the now moment,
Could you choose the emotion of love?
Love for yourself,
Love towards everything else.
As you breathe,
Just for the now moment,
Could you choose the emotion of gratitude?
Gratitude for life,
Gratitude for the present moment.
Gratitude for life and everything that life has to offer.
Did you notice that you have the power to choose what you want in the now moment?
What you choose now influences the next now moment and the next.
Choosing joy,
Happiness,
Love,
Kindness and gratitude in the now moment sets off a chain reaction that creates magic in life.
The now is powerful because you have the choice.
Become aware of your surroundings,
The space and the objects.
Become aware of your body and the shape it is in.
And now,
Gently open your eyes to a world where you have the power to choose in the now moment.
May you choose the best that life has to offer.
Namaste.
