The body scan is a popular mindfulness practice to connect mind and body and create equanimity. In this practice we add self compassion so that we can fall in love with our bodies. Going through every part from head to toe we accept and love ourselves just the way we are.

Let's take in a lovely deep inhalation,

Breathing in through the nose,

And then slowly exhaling and out the nostrils.

Nice,

Good.

Breathing normally now if you can through the nose.

Let's bring our awareness to our feet,

And you can wiggle your toes,

And let's just celebrate your feet.

You can think about the journey that you've been on,

The places where your feet have taken you.

Some places beneficial,

Some other places not so beneficial,

But we wouldn't be here if we hadn't visited these certain places,

And we're very grateful to our feet.

You can feel a sense of happiness and joy,

Moving that awareness into your legs,

And being grateful for our legs,

And hopefully our legs are working well,

And to think about the times when we wake up,

We don't feel like getting out of bed,

But we use our legs and we stand,

And every day we rise,

And we move,

And we walk,

And we celebrate the things that we've taken the stand for,

And feel a sense of pride,

Moving that awareness now just into the contact of your seat,

Or if you're lying down,

Just the touch points,

And moving your awareness to your back,

Feeling your backbone,

Every single vertebrae,

Being mindful of this,

And thinking of the backbone,

And sometimes we've had to sit tall,

Push our chest out,

And feel like we've got this,

And we've done that many,

Many times,

And we're grateful and proud of this.

Take a deep breath and feel your chest expand,

And perhaps you may feel your heart beating in your chest.

We're grateful to our hearts for beating,

And working,

And keeping us alive,

And not just our beating heart,

But our emotional heart as well,

For our ability to show love and compassion to others,

Thinking of all the people we've helped and served,

Moving your awareness into your arms,

Thinking of all those that you've given a big hug to,

And made their day,

And all the people you will still continue to hug,

And bring awareness into your hands,

And just think of all the work that you do,

The emails you've typed,

The reports,

The documents you've written,

The letters you've planted,

You've wiped away tears,

You've caressed,

You've nurtured,

You've built,

Using your hands,

We're grateful for all the work that we've done,

Because as Kahlil Gibran says,

Work is love made visible,

And being aware of your neck,

And your chin,

And your face,

And you can smile,

You can breathe,

And smell,

And see,

And hear,

All these amazing abilities.

You have a brain that can interpret all these senses into some order,

That's remarkable,

And perhaps you'd like to repeat these affirmations.

I'm going to give myself a break.

I'm going to show myself more kindness.

I'm going to be patient with myself.

I'm going to do things,

More things that I enjoy.

Good,

Let's take in another deep breath,

Breathing in through the nose,

Opening the mouth,

And gently release.

Now if we do this every single day,

Just a little bit,

How will that feel?

Celebrate yourself,

Bring in that self-worth,

That self-compassion,

That self-kindness,

It's a practice,

And this is how we rewire our inner critic,

And how we fall in love with ourselves.
