Welcome friend.
Fear,
As we all know,
Is a necessary human emotion,
But it can become counterproductive when we ruminate and take on fear that is not ours.
Unfortunately,
Our nervous system does not know the difference between a real,
Immediate threat and a perceived threat that our mind has conjured up.
Pregnancy and childbirth are full of fearful narratives,
So I can absolutely empathize that it is difficult to distinguish between what is real fear that requires action,
Versus perceived fear,
Which is not based in reality.
In this meditation,
We will be locating and dissolving any fear you may currently be feeling that is not rooted in truth.
So I invite you to find a comfortable spot to sit or lay your body down.
If you are pregnant,
Using any cushions to prop yourself up,
Or lying on your left side on a soft mattress.
If it's a nice day and accessible for you,
I'd encourage you to lay out on the grass,
Or simply find a cozy spot indoors.
Taking a few moments now to adjust your body,
Your clothes,
And settle into a position that feels best for you.
Letting the shoulders drop away from the ears,
Unclenching the jaw,
Releasing the muscles between your eyebrows,
And allowing the eyes to close and fall heavy in their sockets.
Taking a long slow breath in through the nose,
With a gentle release out of the mouth.
Imagining your muscles melting away from your bones,
And gravity pulling your body into the earth beneath you.
Taking another long slow breath in through the nose,
And gently out through the mouth.
Letting go,
Softening further,
And again,
Long slow deep breath through the nose,
And with no effort at all,
Releasing through the mouth.
Letting the body fully relax.
You are held.
Bringing your awareness now to your body,
Seeing if you can bring your awareness over your body in its entirety,
From the tips of your toes,
To the crown of your head.
Allowing yourself to feel all of you,
In your fullness,
Your wholeness,
Your aliveness.
Maintaining this wider awareness,
I invite you now to locate the part,
Or parts of your body,
That you feel your fear,
By gently scanning your body with your mind.
Noticing where you feel the sensation of your fear most strongly.
Taking a deep breath into this location,
And exhale,
Letting go,
And softening.
See now if you can describe the texture of your fear.
How does it feel?
Perhaps it is hot,
Or constricting.
Perhaps you describe it as red,
Or even painful.
Silently describing your fear now.
Taking another deep breath into your fear,
And exhale,
Letting go,
Softening.
I now invite you to quietly acknowledge your fear.
Saying hello,
I see you.
Your fear is simply a sensation,
A feeling.
It is not you,
And you are not it.
It is simply a feeling,
And feelings pass.
It is not you,
And you are not it.
Deep breath now into that knowing,
And exhale,
Release,
And soften.
Taking a deep breath right into the heart of your fear once again,
And exhale,
Letting go,
Softening further.
If it feels good to you,
Placing your hands lovingly over the fear,
And silently repeating the following affirmations after me.
Thank you fear,
For trying to protect me,
But I am safe.
I can trust my body,
I can trust my baby.
My body and intuition will tell me when there is something truly to fear.
I can release all fear that doesn't belong to me.
I am choosing love,
And I am choosing trust.
I am divinely guided,
Supported,
And held.
Perhaps you have some of your own phrases that feel supportive to you.
I will give you some now to let them come through,
Really feeling into the truth of them within your body.
Taking a deep breath once again,
Solidifying your truth into the cells of your body on the inhale,
And letting go of all that doesn't serve you on the exhale.
And again,
Breathing in truth,
And exhaling fear.
Inhaling truth,
And exhaling fear.
Bringing your awareness now back out over your whole body.
Feeling your body as an entire entity.
Noticing how you feel.
Perhaps there is a lightness to you now,
A buzzing,
Or even a sense of floating.
Perhaps the change is very subtle,
And that's perfect too.
Over time,
And through practices such as this,
We can learn to be with the big challenging feelings,
And come back to our center,
Our truth,
And find peace within the body once again.
Deep inhale down into the belly,
Filling up the side ribs,
Inflating all the way to your collarbones,
And then a gentle release.
Inhaling your truth once again,
Deeply into the belly,
Up into your heart space,
And then letting go,
Softening.
Once again,
Deeply inhaling,
Filling your entire being with love,
Trust,
Peace,
And then letting go,
Exhaling all that doesn't serve you.
Taking a few moments now to bring your awareness back to the room or space you're in.
Just begin by noticing the sounds around you.
Noticing what you can feel under your fingers.
Noticing where your body is pressing into the floor beneath you.
You are held.
Introducing a wee bit of movement now into your fingers and toes.
Perhaps a nice big stretch overhead.
And then in your own time,
Slowly opening up your eyes,
Taking in the room once again,
Well done for showing up for yourself today my friend.
I hope you feel more grounded and connected to your truth,
Sending you so much love on your journey.
