This five-minute practice is designed for moments when the mind feels busy or restless. With eyes open, you’ll gently explore the relationship between breathing and thinking, without trying to change or control anything. The invitation is to let thoughts arise freely while staying connected to the felt experience of the breath. This practice emphasizes comfort with whatever is present, including an active mind.

Choose the posture that feels right in this moment,

Whether sitting,

Standing,

Or lying down.

Let's go with eyes open for this practice,

And start by noticing the relationship between the breath and thinking.

Just notice the activity,

But feel the experience of breathing as it is right now.

For these few minutes,

We're looking at thinking just as it is,

Not trying to do anything about it.

If during these five minutes,

We decide that there's something that needs to be done about it,

We're making the commitment to do that afterwards.

But for five minutes,

Just be,

And let thinking happen without doing anything about it.

Our practice right now is about becoming comfortable with whatever is showing up in each moment.

It's one thing for thinking to be active,

But yet something else entirely,

To judge oneself for the content of one's thoughts.

Just let the thinking happen.

Now,

Notice,

Has it changed?

How has it changed?

Continue breathing.

Continue listening.

Continue feeling into the relationship between the breath and the thinking.

Continue to be mindful,

And always come back to the breath throughout the day,

Even for one breath at a time.

Thank you for your practice.
