In this meditation Jordan guides us through a visualization practice to find/create a calming place in which we can return to time and time again. This practice can be a helpful in the process of self soothing during times of difficulty and/or to practice with repetition during calmer times to support memory retention (for use during future times of emotional strain).

This is a meditation to help you connect to a safe,

Calm place and the emotions that come with that place.

So get comfortable in your seat,

Feet on the floor or in a relaxed position and arms uncrossed.

And we're going to start with just taking a couple of deep breaths.

Breathing in deeply through your nose and exhaling out your mouth.

Take another deep breath in through your nose and out.

And you can continue to breathe at your own pace and deeply and slowly as we go through this meditation.

And I want your mind to start to paint the picture of a calm,

Peaceful place.

This could be a memory of a place that you've been that brings up a sense of peace or calm.

It could be a imaginary place,

One that you create in your mind like the beach or by a gentle stream.

Anywhere that you might imagine or that you remember that brings up a sense of peace and tranquility.

And it doesn't have to be a perfect place.

Any place that brings on these emotions.

See if you can let your mind settle on just one.

And again,

Allow it to fill in the picture of this place.

See if you can imagine the colors,

Anything that you can see.

Your sense of sight,

What you see in this place.

Maybe there's a lot of blues or shades of green.

Maybe even the red or orange of a sunset.

And as you're sitting and looking at this place,

Imagine what sounds might be happening.

Whether it's the sound of water or wind blowing through trees.

Whatever sounds that you imagine or remember might be in this place for you.

See if you can pay attention to them.

Remembering to breathe deeply and slowly as you imagine and sit in this place just for a minute.

Maybe start to interact with the environment a little bit.

Maybe using your sense of touch to touch the water or feel the ground beneath you.

Maybe even picking something up.

Noticing the temperature or the texture of something.

And again,

If your mind drifts as you do this exercise,

You can gently bring it back to this place.

Knowing that this isn't going to be a perfect experience maybe,

But spending some time in a calm and relaxing place,

Even for a moment,

Can help settle us a little bit.

So go back into your senses or sense of touch,

Noticing what you feel.

And whatever you might be doing at this point in your place,

Whether it's sitting or standing or simply breathing as you remember the colors and sounds of this place,

Notice what emotions come up for you and what that feels like.

As you may notice a sense of peace or tranquility,

Notice what that looks like for you.

And just kind of simmer in that emotion,

In that peace,

Almost like you're soaking in it.

Don't need to change anything or do anything about it.

Just kind of sit with it as you remember to breathe.

Before we leave this place,

See if we can take some breaths.

And as you breathe in,

Imagine almost that you're breathing in the peace or tranquility that this place offers.

As you breathe in through your nose,

Having yourself breathing in that peace into your body and exhaling it out.

Breathing it in.

Breathing it out.

And you can start to let this place fade from your mind,

Knowing that it always goes with you and you can recall this place at any time and the peace that it brings you.
