Tantra Yoga philosophy suggests that when we focus on the fruits of action this is karmic, these actions are a means to an end and ultimately less likely to be successful. Kriya actions, those our inner being finds joyful and done without expectation of a particular outcome, are liberation and more likely to be successful. We explore this by releasing expectations around the outcome of our meditation practice. Photo by Yeshi Kangrang on Unsplash

Let's make ourselves comfortable.

Placing our body somewhere it can rest for a while.

Parking our body where our knees,

Our joints are in neutral.

We can take a deeper breath and allow our spine to expand a little,

Become a little bit taller and exhaling we can soften a little,

Relaxing into our seat.

I'm taking one or two deeper breaths as our attention turns inward.

I invite you to rest with your natural breath.

So seeing if you can allow your breath to do exactly what it wants.

Because our tendency is to interfere.

Now our ego thinks it knows better.

Can we just observe the breath,

Do what it wants.

And if our mind wanders we can notice where it's been.

We can include that as part of the landscape,

Part of our experience in the moment.

There's nothing wrong with it.

Let's make that there's nothing wrong with it.

Let's notice it and return our awareness to the breath.

From our observer seat we watch the waves of the breath.

Each breath unique.

Each breath unique.

And if your mind wanders rather than considering it an irritation I invite you to think of it as very useful data.

Useful data about what you want,

Your expectations maybe of the practice,

Maybe of something else.

About your judgements.

How a judgement might be of an expectation that didn't come about,

We didn't get what we were hoping for.

And that's what we're trying to observe in this practice.

And then we can release that goal as well.

So easily it slips in.

So in our observer seat we rest in a landscape of the breath,

Mind chatter,

Physical sensations,

And the centre of the whole universe.

Is it possible just to be here in the centre without needing or wanting a thing?

Just for a moment.

Funnel releasing as best we can any expectations of the practice of ourselves of our whole experience right now and if that proves difficult if there is an inner voice that says no but what about whatever we notice that and we unfold that into the landscape we allow that objection to become part of our experience staying and out as best we can for changes in this landscape of experience as new thoughts come along each new breath comes along as we take a deep breath in and out as we take a deep breath in and out as we take a practice is inspired by Tantra Yoga philosophy where we consider releasing our karmic actions which are those which are conditioned as in conditioned by our past experience not necessarily linked to our inner truth and also conditional as in we do them expecting a certain outcome that we want and if we don't get that outcome then there was nothing good there was no point in the action in the first place and we can contrast that with the Kriya action the power of action which is expressing ourselves expressing our natural being without expectation and I offer to you the insight that our practice our meditation practice our any action is most successful when it is enjoyed for its own sake experiencing it as a celebration of our natural being rather than a means to an end considering how that might apply in your life noticing that and returning to our observer seat with our breath with our thoughts with all that stuff and as we slowly prepare to return to our regular waking state of consciousness we can bring our awareness to our breath as part of our body feeling the breath in the body subtle movements sensations of the body allowing it to ground our awareness in our physical being and we'll take one or two deeper breaths and let's gently begin to move our body wiggling our fingers and toes our wrists ankles feeling that having a little stretch and gradually coming back to the rest of the universe thank you for practicing with me
