In session #12 and the final session of the Rx to Feel by E-Motion Steadiness Series, guided by Michal, Deanne’s mom, we will consider the concept of finding steadiness amidst our grief and how over time, this can help us build up our stamina and capacity to cope. “Rx to Feel” by E-Motion is a self-guided audio series for grievers, by grievers. It is intentionally designed to be listened to while in motion, to help us move with, rather than away from, the hardest things. This first 12-session series focuses on finding steady ground.

Hi everyone.

Welcome back to Emotions Prescription to Feel series.

My name is Michal,

Deanne's mom,

And I'll be moving with you for today's final session.

I hope you've found steadiness and comfort in this series and that we can move again today in a way that brings more of the same.

If possible,

Let's find a quiet place outside where we can be still.

You know the routine by now,

So let's get started with our three deep grounding breaths.

With each breath,

I invite you to be where your feet are.

Know that I'm standing here beside you.

We can keep our eyes open or closed.

I'm going to close mine.

Take a deep inhale through your nose,

And a long exhale through your mouth.

On the exhale,

Imagine your breath landing all the way down to your toes.

Wiggle your toes before the next inhale,

And let's do this together three more times.

Now let's tap our hearts twice,

Reminding ourselves to honor all feelings that may come up for you today.

And finally,

Let's stretch out our arms wide and relax our gaze,

Embracing the space in front of us,

Remembering that we are here to connect,

Not compare.

And now let's get moving together.

However you choose to move today,

I'm here with you,

So find a pace that feels right for you in this moment.

This final session centers on steadiness.

We live in a culture that values achievement,

Heroes,

Ambition,

Drive.

In this culture,

We may overlook the triumph of feeling steadiness within ourselves and our day-to-day.

This feeling of steadiness allows us to walk with stability,

Safety,

And centeredness in a sometimes scary world where we sometimes have no control,

Where we have already experienced far too much loss.

As we move,

We can create moments of steadiness,

Moments where the ground beneath our feet is secure,

Where we trust ourselves to say the next thing,

Where we can interact with a new person,

Moments when we can take a handful of breaths without gasping for air.

These are all moments to honor and recognize,

Even celebrate.

Let's notice the places,

Spaces,

And people that strengthen our sense of steadiness.

Let's move towards them,

Moving away from those who make it harder.

The word steadiness makes me think of words like regular,

Consistent.

So although grief arises,

We can still move with regularity and consistency.

We can develop the steadiness required to say yes to life while we're holding anguish.

Everything that we've been exploring together is ultimately about saying yes to conversations with our grief that at first might feel scary,

Sharp,

Or overwhelming.

Over time,

We build up stamina and capacity to cope with our grief,

Like how we're doing right now.

As we approach our final quiet movement together,

Take a moment to recognize and celebrate your choice to be here,

To steady your step,

To turn toward your grief and move together in this community.

For this quiet movement,

Consider what steadiness is like in your body.

How do you enhance it?

Does a deep breath bring it about?

Do you feel it in your posture,

In the way your feet meet the ground?

Can you recall an experience where you felt especially steady,

And does that remembering inform and affect how you feel in your body now?

With the sound of the chime,

We'll start our quiet movement.

Welcome back from your quiet movement.

We are soon approaching the end of our time together in this emotion series.

And as we do,

I wonder if enhancing your steadiness is something you'd like to take with you moving forward.

What else would you like to take from this series?

Have you acquired a new tool or practice,

Such as breathing or noticing,

That you'd like to move with in the future?

Have you found ways to access your steadiness that could support your grief?

I'm going to wind down my movement here,

But feel free to continue moving if that feels right to you,

Or simply take a few deep breaths as we're getting ready to close.

We will close with these words from Rachel Naomi Remnan's book,

My Grandfather's Blessings.

Something in us can transform suffering into wisdom.

The process of turning pain into wisdom often looks like a sorting process.

First we experience everything,

Then,

One by one,

We let things go,

The anger,

The blame,

The sense of injustice,

And finally,

Even the pain itself,

Until all we have left is a deeper sense of value,

Of life,

And a greater capacity to live it.

This brings us to the end of our session today.

Thank you for moving alongside me and for moving with all of us here at the Emotion Community.

Although this session brings us to the end of the series,

We hope you'll continue to share your time,
