Nadi Shodhana
by Elly Kace
5 Minutes of guided alternate nostril breathing with gentle sound healing music. Our nervous systems are constantly scanning the environment for stimuli and then responding. There are three states that we pass through in order when we are in respond to a situation. When the nervous system doesn’t perceive a threat, it remains in the ventral vagal “safety” response. But when we get an inkling that something might be off, we enter the sympathetic state, where we become more vigilant, feel threatened, and engage in a fight/flight response. We can use our breathing exercises to bring the nervous system back to the ventral state, and chakra rebalancing work (more on that later), to rebalance the energy centers on a deeper level after a threatening experience.
