Welcome to this gratitude awareness practice.
Gratitude has the power to transform the ordinary into the extraordinary,
Helping us recognize the small and large blessings in life.
Today we'll explore how gratitude and joy are interconnected,
Each amplifying the other,
Creating a state of inner fullness and peace.
Let's begin.
Find a comfortable position,
Either seated or lying down.
Let your hands rest in your lap or on your knees and close your eyes.
Take a deep breath in through your nose,
Holding it for a moment and then exhale slowly through the mouth.
Feel the weight of your body grounding you,
Supported by the surface beneath you.
Take a moment to notice how your body feels right now.
Is there any tension or restlessness?
With each exhale,
Let it soften and release,
Allowing yourself to be fully relaxed.
Become aware of the natural rhythm of your breath,
Noticing the inhale and noticing the exhale.
With each inhale,
Feel a sense of spaciousness and with exhale,
Let yourself settle more deeply into the present moment,
Allowing yourself to be fully present.
Now bring your awareness to the center of your chest,
To the heart space and feel the gentle rise and fall of your chest as you breathe,
Noticing the rhythm of your heart beating.
See if you can become really curious about the sensations in your chest,
Letting go of everything else and just being fully present for it.
Now begin to imagine a warm soft light glowing in your heart,
Pulsing with each breath.
Visualize this light growing brighter with every inhale and expanding with every exhale.
Breathing in,
This light grows brighter and breathing out,
It expands,
Taking up more space within you.
What does this light feel like?
What does it represent for you?
As you keep resting your awareness on your heart space,
I invite you to think about one thing you're grateful for today and it might be something small like the taste of your morning tea or the way someone made you smile today or it might be something larger.
But see if you can refrain from thinking and to just allow whatever wants to come up to come up.
As you bring to mind this moment in your day,
Picture it clearly in your mind,
Bringing it back to life.
What do you see?
What do you smell?
What do you hear?
And as you focus on this,
Let the feeling of gratitude rise within you and notice how it feels in your body.
How does it feel to allow this sense of gratitude to wash over you?
Picture this feeling of gratitude as the light in your heart that we visualized earlier,
Growing brighter with every inhale and expanding with every exhale.
First to your chest,
Then to your arms,
Your hands,
Your torso.
Let it flow to your legs and feet and finally let it radiate outward,
Surrounding you in a cocoon of gratitude and joy.
If your mind begins to wander,
Gently bring it back to the sensation of gratitude in your body and the steady rhythm of your breath.
Notice how as you focus on what you're grateful for and really tuning in to what it feels like in your body,
The sense of joy naturally follows.
And likewise,
Joy creates a fertile space for gratitude to flourish.
Let the gratitude expand beyond yourself,
Extending further outward to the people,
Experiences and places around you.
And let it go as far as it wants to go.
Now rest here in this sense of ease,
Openness,
Love and gratitude.
Just being,
No need to think about anything.
You can let go of any visualizations.
Just being and breathing.
Now slowly begin to deepen your breath,
Slowly waking up your body,
Feeling the coolness of the inhale and the warmth of the exhale.
Starting to move the fingers and toes,
Bringing your awareness back to your body.
And when you're ready,
You may open your eyes.
Take a moment to look around you and see if you can carry this feeling of gratitude with you as you move through your day.
Thank you for practicing today.
