This is the best day yet and you're listening to Emergency Calm.
This episode is for when you need a calming reset.
Maybe right now you are transitioning from one activity to another and you need a short break to calm down.
It's okay.
This practice is going to be fun and it's going to help you prepare for whatever comes next.
Imagine that we're on the beach.
The sun is shining.
We are sitting at the edge of the waves with our toes in the sand.
Wiggle your toes and imagine the warm sand.
The waves are rolling in and out.
And in and out.
Sit here for a moment and listen to the waves.
As you watch them and listen,
You realize that you have the power to control these waves.
When you breathe in,
You pull the waves towards you.
And when you breathe out,
You push the waves back.
Try it.
Breathe in and you pull the waves in.
Breathe out and the waves roll back.
That's kind of cool.
It's a new power that you have.
Try it again.
Breathe in and you pull the waves in.
Breathe out and the waves roll back.
One more time.
Breathe in and you pull the waves in.
Breathe out and the waves roll back.
And then you see these little birds with long legs.
Sandpipers.
Every time they run,
They sound like this.
The sandpipers love to eat what lives in the wet sand,
But they don't like to get their feet wet.
So every time you breathe in and a wave comes in,
The sandpipers have to make a run for it.
And every time you hear the sandpipers,
It reminds you to smile.
When you smile,
It sends your body a signal to relax.
So when you hear that sandpiper noise,
Don't forget to smile.
Let's try it again with the sandpipers.
Breathe out and push the wave way out to the ocean.
And breathe in.
Breathe out.
The wave rolls out.
And breathe in.
Try to splash the sandpipers a little bit.
One more time.
Get your best breath yet.
Empty up all the air from your belly and the waves pull way back.
And breathe the wave way,
Way in.
Yep,
I think those sandpipers got their feet wet.
Do you hear them flying away?
You are calm.
You are strong.
Good things are coming your way.
How do you feel?
I bet you feel a little more settled,
A little more calm.
And I'm guessing that after just a few minutes of practicing deep belly breaths,
You are now ready for whatever is coming next.
You can come back to the beach with me and these sandpipers anytime you want.
Thanks for breathing with me.
I see the calm,
Strong one in you.
And I'm wishing you the best day yet.
