This is the Day 2 Meditation from Cayce's '30 Day Meditation Habit'. Does your mind ever wander? Great, you are alive and human. The fact that the mind wanders is as common as the desire for food or sleep. The human mind just does. The mind will produce thoughts on its own. But that does not mean you won't be able to meditate! "When you first begin to meditate, the movement of thoughts may feel like a rushing waterfall. But as you continue to apply the technique of recognizing thoughts and returning your focus to the breath, the torrent slows down to a river, then to a meandering stream, which eventually flows into a deep, calm ocean."-Sakyong Mipham Rinpoche The good news is that the mind will settle eventually… the better news is that even when the mind is active it will not be a problem.

Let's meditate today on the wandering mind.

First just allow yourself to be in a nice meditative posture where you are nice and comfortable.

And then start by just taking in the moment itself.

Turning on the light switch of awareness.

Being aware of the aliveness of the moment.

Allowing the eyes to close.

If they are not closed already.

Being present of the breath.

Notice that this awareness can be present of the moment and everything arising within it.

The sounds,

The sensations,

The breath.

Just observing non-judgmentally.

And with that same awareness,

Taking a look at the mind.

The thoughts.

And with that same attitude of non-judgment.

Just noticing thoughts are coming.

They abide for a little while.

And then they move on.

Mindfulness always needs to be mindful of something.

But it's the awareness itself that counts.

So for the next minute or so,

Allowing the awareness to focus on the breath.

And if you notice the mind,

The thoughts coming in,

Simply shift the awareness to that thought.

Tell that thought,

Thank you for coming.

And then move back into the breath.

Keeping the meditation unbroken by simply being aware of the entire process.

The breath.

Recognition of the thought.

And then returning back to the breath.

So continue on your own for the next few moments.

Thank you.

Thank you.
