It doesn't take long to use the breath to relax and rapidly down-regulate stress. By breathing in for a count of 4 and sighing out forcefully, we signal to our nervous system that it's safe for us to relax. Sighing is our body's most powerful mechanism for discharging stress and by consciously deciding to breathe like this, we activate the parasympathetic nervous system, which results in an immediate step from fight or flight to rest and digest.

Yes,

Two minutes can make a massive difference.

Today's breath practice,

We are going to breathe in for a count of four and sigh it out heavily for a two minute period.

This will activate the parasympathetic nervous system and will result in immediate relief,

An immediate drop in stress levels.

So let's go.

In for the count of four through your nose.

Sigh it out.

In.

Sigh it out.

In.

In.

Just keep this breathing pattern going.

Breathing in for a count of four and sighing it out.

Try and make the sighs and exhales as big as you can.

Really release.

Release.

As you continue to do this,

In for a count of four and big sigh.

You should already be feeling your body relaxing,

Feeling that stress being released.

In.

Sigh it out.

And two more.

You can come back to do this and follow along any time you like.

But for now,

Just enjoy that sense of peace.
