Choosing a word of the year has been a practice I've done for about 5 years and it's really impactful to choose one and commune with it all year long as a meditation or koan. I've come to pair an essential oil with it as well to help entrain the body into the vibration of the word itself and allow me to understand myself and the energy I desire to better embody as the year goes on. This recording was done with a live group, and for the first time, many of the participants ended up choosing two words. Don't limit what wants to come. Allow it to bring you into the next evolution, but like working with a Sankalpa in yoga nidra practice. If you'd like to pair it with an essential oil but don't know what one to choose, feel free to message me from my teacher profile and I'm happy to make suggestions.

So just get comfortable and bring your eyes to close and just start bringing your attention inward with your breath.

Inhaling through the nose,

Exhaling out the mouth.

Just maybe circle the shoulders and just kind of get the wiggles out a little bit.

And just begin by bringing your attention down into your belly,

Just feeling the seat of your soul,

The seat of your essence,

Of your body,

Of your structure,

Of all that it holds.

And if your pelvis was a bowl that was holding energy,

Just notice right now what it's holding from 2023.

What is what's present there?

Is there debris from things that didn't go to plan or things that you want to still create?

And just kind of feel into that,

The tenderness of where you are.

And even imagine that there are note cards in this bowl with words.

And are there words of things that you wish had happened or did happen that kind of signify where you are right now?

And some of them might be dual-sided,

Like the energy of fear can also be excitement depending on the intention that you put into it.

You might be scythed,

Scared and excited.

It might be a double-sided energy.

And then imagine opening the crown of the head and seeing a light pouring in from above,

Down through the crown,

Down along the spinal column.

And this energy that's coming in of 2024,

What does it feel like?

Is it inspiring?

Is it activating?

Is it encouraging?

What does that feel like?

And is there an energy that you desire to embody?

Something that you want to shift or change about your life or your relationships or your work or your parenting?

And just start calling that in like a waterfall through the crown of your head.

What is it that you want to become in 2024?

Is there an energy that is a higher and more divinely aligned energy for you?

Is there a way that you haven't been showing up in a way that you actually desire to?

Is there a hobby or a relational quality that you want to cultivate?

Maybe you desire to have more intimacy in your life or to have more abundance or nourishment.

And just scan your body for what feels like it's missing that might want to fill in those blanks.

And if there's energy in the belly of old ideas,

Old thoughts,

Feelings,

Expressions of yourself that no longer serve,

Just allow yourself to send those down out your root and down into the earth and offer those back to Mother Earth for composting.

Just say,

I'm done with these now.

I'm done with this style of expressing or I'm done with this painful interaction or I'm done with this thing that I tried that didn't work out.

And I'm ready to offer that back to create even more space for what's to come.

Just allow that light coming in through your crown to go all the way down now into your belly and fill in those spaces of what has just been released.

And just notice with your mind's eye if any words come or colors or shapes or the feeling of what it is that you want to bring in.

A structure that you want to bring the year in with.

A container that holds the experience of the whole year.

An energy that you can lean into and discover.

And maybe a word shows up that you don't even know the definition of it or you don't even know what it means.

But that word,

I promise you,

Will mean something different to you at the end of the year than it does right now.

And that's the power of this practice is a lot of times those words come to us and we don't even understand why.

But there's a lesson that's underneath it when we sit with it all year and let it open up.

And we have to listen to know what that is.

And pay attention to even if there's a texture or a smell that comes,

A taste or a scene,

Just let yourself watch and observe that for another minute here.

If you were living in your highest expression that you desire with all the abundance and everything that you possibly could need to be in your highest expression,

What would that look like?

And let it be as big and wide and grand as you desire.

There's no limits to what you get to become.

Maybe you desire to expand and feel the outside edges of your being and let yourself be as big as possible.

And if it doesn't come now,

That's okay too.

You're just opening the door and inviting this communion with your word to come in.

Maybe it will come to you at another time.

It has a way of showing up organically and sometimes we don't know what the word is until we hear it.

And then our whole body has a response and we know,

Oh that's my word.

And as we come to a close,

Just thanking all those inner parts of yourself for showing up,

For waking up,

For showing you what needs to be released,

What desires to come in.

And just place that wish,

That desire to commune and know what that word is,

What that energy is.

Because it's really not about the word,

It's about the embodiment of it.

It's about the becoming of you.

And just place that in the center of your heart,

Like you're leaving a gift on an altar and saying,

I'm ready to meet you when you're ready to reveal yourself.

And just allowing yourself to come back into the room,

Into your body,

Feeling the surface beneath you.

And taking a deep breath,

Inhaling through the nose,

Exhaling out the mouth.

Just allowing yourself to arrive back and opening your eyes whenever you're ready.

This is a great way to start the year. I think the word had already come to me but it was solidified here. Thank you

Excellent! And ties in so well with I.T.'s word of the year. I love the practice of putting it right in my heart. For me, that seemed to confirm it for the year. And even though this is a meditation from several years ago, it’s so timeless, isn’t it? Thank you! 💫✨💫
