If you're lying down,
You can begin lying down.
If you're already sitting up,
You can begin sitting.
If you're standing,
You can begin standing.
Ideally,
You find yourself in a place of relative darkness,
Such that with your eyes closed,
You don't have any of that glittering of light through your eyelids,
But it feels relatively still and quiet and dark.
And your mind is a little bit swirly and squishy.
Embrace that beginning of the day sleepiness,
Even confusion.
Let it be.
Acknowledge your body without judgment.
Notice where you're stiff.
You might be sore.
You may notice tightness in a muscle,
Stiffness in a joint.
Don't judge,
Just witness and let your attention drift around your body.
What feels good?
What feels tight?
Maybe bring up the corners of your mouth,
Crinkle your eyes into a gentle,
Very slight smile.
Not yet in a state of full alertness.
Playful semi-consciousness as we begin.
Without opening your eyes just yet,
Take note of the space around you.
Cool,
Warm.
Is the air still?
The space you're in relatively quiet.
You start to perceive background noises.
Notice the soothing darkness behind your eyes as you breathe.
Taking deep breaths in and long breaths out.
Maybe you need to yawn or stretch.
That's great.
Without necessarily opening your eyes,
Just picture,
Imagine the light growing a tiny bit in intensity,
Just a little.
Maybe you breathe with a little more energy.
Exhale with a little more sound.
You might start to become more aware of the temperature specific to the room or place where you are.
Or notice tingling electrical impulses in your skin.
Starting to feel more solid,
More present,
Just slightly less dreamlike.
Maybe your body starts to expand into your environment,
Spine could get longer.
Your smile might be growing.
Behind your eyes,
Imagine the space being again a little more illuminated.
The world growing a little in brightness.
You may notice your fingers and toes,
Maybe they start to wiggle or shift a little.
Your breathing might be settling into its regular and unforced pattern.
The ears of your ears and the eyes of your eyes become more alert.
Exactly.
You hear sounds little and big.
You start to perceive more sensations in and around your body,
Noticing,
Beginning to come into presence,
And a greater state of awakeness.
One more time,
Perceive behind your eyelids the light growing in illumination,
Maybe even starting to feel warm,
Maybe even a little uncomfortable.
That's good.
You're waking up.
You're coming to your day with a sense of gratitude.
Maybe you can start to feel the strength and poise in your muscles,
The rigor of your skeleton and other organs coming online.
Perhaps your breath is just steady,
Almost uninteresting,
Typical.
You are human becoming,
Emerging.
Even the world around you is emerging into your consciousness.
You start to notice the boundary between your skin and your environment.
Maybe you notice your face and its muscles,
And you can feel a buoyancy in your cheeks as your smile grows in gratitude for waking up.
As we prepare to close this meditation,
When you're ready,
In our last moments,
Let your eyes open.
And if you can,
Absorb and note the many colors around you.
When you're ready,
Let your eyes open gently and observe color.
Weight.
