In this video I'll be giving you some really practical tools to help you banish your bad habits and create healthier happier new ones for 2026.
On the 1st of January every single year pretty much 80% of the planet promises that this year they will become the best versions of themselves ever.
And so what do we do?
We create new year resolutions.
Now it's an age-old tradition and something that many of us have been doing time and time again year after year.
On January the 1st we say things like I'm really going to lose weight or I'm definitely going to eat healthier,
I'm off to the gym,
I'm going to get a membership,
I'm going to get fit and I'm absolutely absolutely going to quit smoking definitely.
And at the time we firmly believe that that is what we'll do.
We will be successful and this will be the year we become the person we've always wanted to be.
And it all starts off very well.
Then two weeks into the new year we're back to eating potatoes and pasta,
We've quit the gym and we pulled out the wrinkled packet of cigarettes that we hid down the back of the sofa.
And then to make things worse we blame ourselves and we say oh why is it so difficult to make change?
Why can't I just drop my old habits start healthy new ones?
Well the real reason that we struggle is that we're trying to change our lives using only a tiny little fraction of our power.
A good analogy is this,
Think of your mind as a massive iceberg.
Your conscious mind which is the part that you use to make those new year resolutions is just the tiny tip sticking out of the water.
It's about five percent really of who you are,
Really small.
The other 95 percent is the gigantic part hidden beneath the surface.
Now that is your subconscious and your nervous system all rolled into one.
Imagine a CEO of a huge company announcing a brand new direction for the new year.
That's your conscious mind on January the 1st.
However if the factory floor which is your subconscious is still running the old instructions nothing is actually going to change because the factory will just keep churning out the same old products because that's what it's been programmed to do for years.
Your subconscious isn't trying to make you fail,
Quite the opposite it's actually trying to keep you safe.
I'd like you to think of your nervous system like a home thermostat.
Your nervous system has a set temperature for your life i.
E your old habits and patterns.
So when you try to make a massive change it's a little bit like throwing open all the windows in the middle of winter.
Your system goes into panic mode,
It detects a draft of change,
It gets scared and it cranks up the heat to pull you back to the temperature that it knows is safe.
Now to your mind familiar equals safe.
So when you reach for that old comfort food well your mind thinks it's doing you a favour by returning you to your comfort zone which begs the question how do we make real change?
Well first of all we stop fighting the system and start working with it.
So instead of trying to bully yourself into change with sheer willpower what you have to do is upgrade the software on the factory floor.
You do this by changing the way you talk to yourself.
So for example if you catch yourself saying things like I'll never stick to this or you know what I'm just not a healthy person.
What you're doing is just reinforcing the old code.
Try a simpler more relatable phrase like hey I'm learning how to take better care of myself every day.
Firstly it's neutral and is honest and your subconscious can be on board with that and accept it as a new truth and it writes new neural pathways.
And finally instead of focusing on what you're quitting focus on what you are becoming instead.
Think of it a bit like an actor preparing for a role.
Now they don't just read the lines they step into the character's shoes.
So take a few moments each day just to sit and feel what it's like to be the version of you that already has succeeded.
How do you breathe?
How do you move?
How do you speak?
How do you behave?
And most importantly how do you honor yourself?
When you start to envision your life from the inside out then well the struggle starts to disappear because you aren't fighting your mind anymore.
You're actually leading it into a new journey of transformation.
So why not make 2026 the year that you truly step into your power and say a big wholehearted yes to your dreams.
Remember by envisioning your life believing is seeing.
