So often we perceive constant mental activity as a pathway to productivity but, in fact, the opposite is true. Recent studies show that pockets of short mental rest fortify memory, enhance efficiency, improve focus, and boost contentment. Join me in this short 'brain break' to foster mental relaxation and clarity that will last the whole day through - your brain will thank you!

In today's world,

Being busy can feel like a badge of honor.

What if I told you that to truly harness the unimaginable potential of our bodies and minds,

We first must slow down.

Even the briefest moments of pause are essential in offering this overworking,

Overproducing brain the downtime that it requires to deeply replenish and restore.

An intentional pause,

A relaxed,

Idle break,

Gives our mind the opportunity to integrate and synthesize the flow of information that is constantly being processed in our heads.

Lasting change happens when we create space for stillness,

A quiet place from which we can emerge feeling focused,

Creative,

Balanced,

And content.

Your brain break begins right now.

Please come to find a comfortable seat,

Or lay your body down,

And it makes no difference where you find yourself or in what position,

But ensure you're comfortable and that you will be undisturbed for the next few minutes.

Close your eyelids down,

Welcoming darkness,

And briefly closing these eyes off to their consistent world of overstimulation.

Let your body settle,

Relaxing the muscles of your shoulders,

Of your jaw,

And then begin to bring your all-awareness to your left nostril,

Drawing all of your attention to feel the left side of your nose,

And without moving,

Without adjusting in any way,

Just begin to draw the air into your body through that left nostril,

And to release and let that air leave your body through the left nostril.

Keep focusing on the left side of your nose.

Every drop fills you up through the left nostril,

And every exhale,

The air leaves through the left side.

Continue to breathe with this awareness on your left side nostril,

The channel that is connected to the more receptive,

The more grounding parts of who you are.

Each time your mind drifts,

Bring it back to the left side of your nose,

And simply feel the air entering and leaving your body through this left side nostril.

Slowly,

Slowly,

Begin to release your awareness of that left side nostril,

And allow your breath to return back to a normal,

Natural rhythm.

With your body in this relaxed,

Open state,

Encourage your ears to open as well,

And let sound be an anchor to guide you through the remainder of this practice,

Letting sound travel to you effortlessly,

And then leave just as easily.

When you feel ready,

Begin to draw your awareness back into the space you are sitting or laying,

Back into your body,

And take a deep,

Cleansing breath in,

Filling up,

And a long,

Purifying breath out,

To let go.

Be light,

Be kind,

Be well.

I’m Trevor Thompson. Any relation? Lol! I never knew I could breathe through just one nostril (left) without holding off the right physically until her beautiful meditation session around brain rest and sitting comfortably in the stillness. 🤙🏻
