A supportive, gentle meditation for tired mothers; this guided meditation uses the image of a pink rose to invite self-nurture. When you're feeling overwhelmed and exhausted, it's hard to tune in to what it is you need. The second part of the meditation takes you into enquiry about what your needs so that after meditating you can take some clarity into your day. (I'm a mother of two boys and I wrote the meditation I would like to have found when my children were younger.)

Welcome,

Tired mother.

You've landed here today because you're feeling a little tired,

Maybe a little overwhelmed,

Maybe a little overstretched with all that is required of you in your mothering journey.

There's a lot of self-sacrifice as a mother and you often have to put yourself at the back of the queue.

There's so much being demanded of you right now that it's easy to feel tired and sometimes to feel like no one is looking after you,

No one is caring for the carer in the family.

So just acknowledge that is how you're feeling today.

It's a perfectly natural,

Perfectly normal way to feel as a mother.

Just let that feeling be as it is and notice it and just take a deep breath,

A deep inhale,

A deep exhale.

Tired mothers sometimes almost need to sigh a bit with the inhale.

The exhale comes out like a bit of a sigh because we're feeling a little tired and a little overwhelmed.

It just is so.

It just is part of the mother role because we give so much outwards and our love is so huge and sometimes it takes a little of a toll on our feeling of wellbeing,

Our feeling of centeredness,

Our feeling of groundedness.

So just acknowledge that feeling and breathe into it and just say,

Oh yeah,

I'm a little tired today,

A little tired today.

Just know that you are one of many,

Many mothers feeling the same way all around the world.

If you imagine a beaded necklace,

You are a precious bead on the necklace of mothers going all around the world,

Interconnected and part of a long ancestral chain of mothers.

You are not alone in the way you feel.

You are with all the other mothers that have always been and will come to being and as such you are supported in this interconnected way.

With that acknowledgement of your tired feeling,

Just bring to mind now in your mind the image of a rose,

A pink rose.

This rose is representing love,

Love and nurture for yourself.

Mother energy tightly filled at the center and then opening out softly,

Blossoming outwards.

You might even be able to bring to mind the soft scent of a rose.

As you breathe in and out slowly relaxing into your body,

Just imagine the pink rose at your heart center unfurling outwards,

Furly unfurling love.

As the rose unfolds,

Soft,

Expensive,

Opening out,

Mother love,

The mother love you give to your children,

Infinite strong love.

Give some of this love,

You know you have the capacity for it because you are a good mother,

A loving person.

Give some of this love to yourself now.

Bask in the pink light emanating from the rose and let the rose light bring ease to you,

Bring grace to you,

Bring a feeling of support to you.

Tired mothers often have a feeling in their tiredness that they are seeking something they are craving something,

They are needing something.

So as you breathe into your meditation,

Into the inquiry of what you need to feel more nurtured,

More supported,

Just bring some curiosity to the question,

Without judgement,

What am I seeking in this moment of tiredness?

What am I seeking?

It could be that you feel you need more rest,

Maybe you want to feel some love sent back towards you,

Maybe just generally needing to feel a little more supported.

You will know if you sit with the question,

What am I seeking?

Then ask yourself,

What am I craving?

What's at the back of your feeling of craving,

Tired mother?

Maybe you're craving some inspiration,

Maybe some nutrition,

Whether it's literal nutrition,

More nutritious food,

Or symbolic nutrition,

Life needs a bit of richness,

A bit of colour.

Maybe you're just craving a bit of space,

Just craving some time alone,

So much surrounded by your children,

Your family,

Your community,

And perhaps there's a kind of yearning inside you to just be alone with yourself,

Resting and looking inwards.

What am I craving?

As some answers begin to arise in your mind,

As you sit with these questions,

As you tune into your intuition and your inner knowing,

As you contemplate these questions of seeking and craving,

The questions of the tired mother,

How can you make some small decisions over the next 24 hours to rest more,

Even if they are micro rests,

Little rests here and there,

To feed yourself in all the ways,

Nutrition,

Nature,

Nurture,

Your passions,

The things you love,

What are some small steps you might take in the next 24 hours to come back to yourself before you are a mother,

Your central integral self.

Breathing into any answers that are arising as you spend time in this inquiry,

And don't judge any of the answers arising,

Even if some of them feel difficult to do,

Just observe what's coming up for you,

Come back to the image of the rose at your heart space,

The generous pink loving energy of the rose,

And setting the intention to give this rose love,

Mother love,

To yourself in the next 24 hours,

As easily and as much as you're able to give it out to your children.

Now gathering any insights that have come your way through being in this tired mother inquiry of what am I seeking,

What am I craving,

What do I need,

Make an intention to carry out a couple of the actions that have arisen to meet your own needs over the next day,

To nurture yourself,

To feed your spirit,

To replenish,

To build yourself back up,

And to create resilience,

Inner resilience,

Inner wisdom,

Because nobody knows better what you need than you.

You are wise,

You are strong,

And you have so much love to give,

And you are capable of giving some of this love back to yourself in the form of small decisions to nurture yourself as much as you nurture your children,

Modelling to your children the importance of self love,

Self nurture,

Self care,

Self inquiry.

Come back one final time to the image of the rose,

The pink rose at the heart,

Mother love,

Mother energy.

Then take all that you've gathered from these inquiries into your seeking,

Your craving,

And your needing forward into the next 24 hours,

Making small gestures towards self care,

Self love,

Self nurture,

So that you can ceaselessly give your love outwards to your children as the pink rose of mother love energy unfolds and unfolds and unfurls and emanates beauty and generosity outwards and outwards.

So just to bring the meditation towards a close now,

Repeat this affirmation in your mind to yourself.

I am nurtured,

I am seen,

I am appreciated,

I am loved,

I am nurtured,

I am appreciated,

I am seen,

And I am loved.

This is you talking to you,

Talking to yourself,

Talking to your own intuition.

As you take some of the tasks of self nurture and self love forward into your life,

May you be happy,

May you be well,

May you be inspired,

And may you find moments of rest.

Thank you for all that you do as a mother on this earth,

A strong mother,

You are so appreciated.

Thank you for taking the time to meditate with me today.
