by Helen Hansen
Kindness is the theme for the month of August 2024. In this reading we look at the hexagram from the i-Ching guiding us through this month. The i-Ching is thought-provoking passages of wisdom and continues to be one of the most translated texts with its heart resting in the Tao. As we journey through the messages from the sages, prepare to be safely transported to your own pearl of insight. On your travels you will be supported by the gentle sounds of 'ambient music' kindly provided by Tom Evans, a teacher here on Insight Timer.

Welcome to this I Ching reading for August 2024.
I'm Helen and I will be your guide through this reading and the way that I conduct the reading is using muscle testing and in this way I'm able to pick up the most relevant and supportive hexagram relating to the human population for a specific time frame.
I've been studying the Tao Te Ching which is at the heart of the I Ching for more than a decade now and it's the deep wisdom in these teachings which really speaks to us and invites us to be an active participant in life.
These readings always are participatory so allow yourself to comfortably notice that which speaks to you and then engage with that noticing what comes up after hearing a certain prompt.
Maybe you will notice something physically,
Maybe you will notice it mentally,
Maybe you'll notice it emotionally or you will just know these prompts or suggestions as they are called are here to activate that deep inner wisdom,
That innate knowingness which we all have.
I Ching is one of the most widely read texts in the world and has been translated into most languages.
Came into the West late 1800s but it was only in the 1940s after a German missionary translated it into English that the Westerners were able to make use of it most appropriately.
And the text that I'm working with is one of the original translations and the language used in the I Ching originally was the yin yang language.
While this is seen merely as line inscriptions,
Solid line for yang or a broken line for yin,
Each carries its own story,
Its own archetypal narrative atmosphere.
When these individual lines are put together in different trigrams they create another story,
Another archetypal theme and then when they're put together further into different hexagrams we get even more information and deeper meanings coming through.
For the purpose of this reading I'm focusing on the actual message that is coming through,
The message of suggestions.
But I do have a very short course available for you here on Insight Timer on the yin yang language if you would like to understand a bit more of that which is also the basis of Five Element Theory,
Meridian Therapy and of course TCM.
But let's prepare ourselves now to receive this information in a most relaxed,
Calm and comfortable manner because it is in this way and in this state we are then able to receive that which is meant for us.
Ideally one would not want to be engaging with any other activity while we listen to this so that we can hear,
Feel and know when our higher self talks to us,
When our intuition nudges us.
If you're not in a comfortable position yet I invite you to take yourself into one now and just really make yourself nice and extra comfy.
Let's move through a few gentle breaths of in and out allowing the facial muscles to relax,
Releasing tension in the jaw,
Allowing the whole body to relax,
Letting all the muscles in the body become soft,
Instructing the nervous system to relax,
Feeling yourself completely supported by the earth beneath you,
Around you,
Just bringing a blank canvas into your mind's eye,
Letting your whole self settle,
Being completely present with the here and now.
And if you can please repeat after me I now 100% completely trust the information that is coming through and I trust that my all-knowing self responds appropriately,
Accurately to that which is meant for me and I trust my intuition,
My guidance and my wisdom.
Let's breathe into that and exhale and let that go.
For the month of August 2024 the hexagram most supportive and relating to the human population is hexagram number nine.
Translated it stands for Taming Power.
The bottom trigram consists of three yang lines,
Three solid lines.
It is called in Chinese qian and means heaven or sky.
This is the most powerful yang combination.
Of course we can see that with the three yang lines and it signifies supreme creative inspiration.
It's all about strength,
It's about vitality,
About moving forward,
About being productive,
Strong sense of spirit.
Of course we also have the opposite side of the coin available.
When one's strength is used as force,
When one's natural growth becomes cold,
When the sense of completeness feels empty.
These are just a few examples of the other extreme that one can feel when in a time of qian.
The upper trigram consists of a broken yin line and then two solid yang lines.
Chinese name is san and it represents the wind.
This talks to growth as well.
Growth through flexibility relates to the quality of the growth and the fauna around us.
On the other end of the scale,
It can show up in an experience of feeling separate,
Feeling isolated,
Alone,
Vulnerable.
Both of these trigrams have a strong yang presence but it is important to take note of that one yin line which is positioned in a way inviting us to use and connect with our yin quality in this time where there is so much yang activity taking place.
So what does this look like in real life?
While the world around us is so busy and there are so many changes taking place,
We might be experiencing obstacles in our path.
We might even be engaging with new ideas,
Feeling very productive and creative.
Whichever of those experiences that we are in,
It is important to know how to hold ourselves back and not go steaming ahead either with the group or in our own projects full of creative spirit or in retaliation to a challenge or an issue.
In all of those circumstances,
We are asked to cultivate a quietness within and be very,
Very sure before moving forward,
Before taking the next step.
So the yang energy would be most beneficial to use in building inner strength qualities and practicing self-control.
And when we use our energy for that and then we revisit the outside world,
The challenges or our own creations,
We will do so in a different mindset,
With a different view.
And it's that view,
That perspective,
That is going to be most beneficial for us in our individual lives,
But also collectively.
The text tells us that by cultivating our inner strength,
We will be able to dissolve or even outlast obstacles or challenges.
It's important for us to be strong within ourselves at this time,
To know who we are,
To know who we are,
To know where our center is,
To know our values,
Our truth.
And for that,
It requires a certain yin quality.
It asks of us to go within,
To get to know ourselves,
Even while there's so much going on around.
And when we have that yin fuel within,
We will then be able to be most effective in our world,
The world at large,
But also our world,
Our very personal world.
And it will enable us to also be gentle and kind to others.
That is another calling for this time of August,
Is a gentleness and kindness for our loved ones and also others,
Perhaps the stranger that passes by,
That crosses your path.
You have a genuine connection,
Eye contact,
A smile.
It doesn't take much of our time,
But it requires that we are in a certain calm,
Centered space within ourselves.
We're also told that when we have faith and trust in ourselves,
We will be able to survive any setbacks that come our way.
And we will be able to do so in a healthy frame of mind.
Lastly,
We are warned against taking advantage of a situation where we see we could maybe score for ourselves or we can gain the upper hand,
Even emotionally.
In the long run,
This can only bring us down.
And this,
Of course,
Is a truth at any time.
It's something we need to watch out for at this time because there is so much activity and potential opportunity,
Opportunity to create,
But also opportunity to react if we are being triggered.
So in a nutshell,
This hexagram called Taming Power asks us to cultivate strength with gentleness.
Be congenial to others and remain true to yourself.
Let's take two minutes now just to let all of that sink in.
And just notice what comes up for you in response to what you've heard.
Without trying to control it,
Just the first things that gently come to your mind,
Or maybe are very obviously there,
Or maybe you feel them in your heart,
Just allow them to have a life of their own for this time,
Allowing you to observe what your innate wisdom is telling you to take note of.
All you need to do is relax All you need to do is relax and be aware and I will watch the time.
You can slowly drop the focus deepening the breath and gently bringing some movement to the body feeling yourself grounding down supported by the earth while at the same time feeling light placing a smile on your lips gently opening up the eyes and setting the intention to remember the one or few points that stood out for you perhaps jotting them down and I do invite you to return to this reading once a week for the four weeks of this month and you might very well notice a different response,
Different awareness and a different take on the reading altogether.
So I look forward to seeing you back here soon and until then I wish you well as you journey through this time and through August 2020.
