When we normalize silence in groups, teams, or families, we may find that just a few moments of presencing together can positively shift the situation at hand and our interactions overall. Quieting our own nervous systems and connecting with each other in a quiet social field can make everyday collaboration more effortless and alive. This brief guided practice invites you and any group you meet with to present together. Use these tracks before a meeting, to take a break, or to close out shared work together. Improve listening, allow for diversity of opinion, and let the “sense of the meeting” emerge. The Presencing Together series has one, two, three, five, eight, and thirteen-minute guided mindfulness sessions so you can grow your quiet reflective practice together over time. Transcript

Welcome to five minutes of presencing together.

We can begin by relaxing the eyes,

Allowing the gaze to soften and perhaps letting the eyes close should you feel comfortable.

We let the tongue and the jaw relax and we may begin to notice the placement of our heads over our shoulders.

We can observe the dignity of our spines and the shapes they make as they sit in space and we notice our seat on the chair and how our feet are connecting with the ground.

Each one of us filling a space here on the ground,

A space that for now is uniquely ours as we relax and sit together.

We might begin to notice the quality of the breathing and noticing how our breathing comes into the body and our breathing goes out from the body,

Seemingly naturally of its own accord.

And as we notice the breath,

We may also notice the rise and fall of the abdomen or the chest or the shoulders and we might observe the placement of our arms and hands in the space around our bodies.

We may also begin to notice our own sensations or feelings arising and popping up,

Maybe a sensation of warmth or coolness,

Dryness or moisture,

Energy or calmness.

Any sensation that may be arising naturally is a valid sensation and we're noticing it here and now.

And even as we continue to observe our own breath and our own sensation,

We also become aware that we are together with others,

Sharing a space,

Sharing a social field that for the time being we have together and just bringing our awareness to the quality of the social field within the room.

Even as we may maintain awareness and observation of our inner condition,

We also become aware of those around us at the same time.

And as we come to the conclusion of five minutes of presencing together,

We acknowledge our observations and return gently to the room.
